1. When we moved over, almost 12 years ago now!!! we got our long rental through an immobilier in Carcassonne. I think that you will find that most of them have long lets on their books? The norm is 3 years. We managed to get ours for 2 years, but there is a let out where when we found our house, after 5 months, we were able to give 3 months notice to leave there. That was ideal, because the normal time it took to buy from signing to moving in was 3 months. I don't know if that has changed, but I'm sure that somebody on here will be able to say??? (OPPS, sorry!! Too many [:-))]??? ))) [Www]
2. I would also write a letter to the BIG BOSS if it was a chain hotel. He/she would not be too pleased to be presented with a letter of a problem that should have been sorted out at the hotel and will possibly tread on a few fingers. If it is a chain jobbie you should be able to get some info by googling the chain name. I haven't done that for hotels, but I have done it for a couple of other problems and it seems to work..
3. Blimey Chancer, I never knew that!! I quite often swim 3 lengths of our 10m pool underwater all on my own! I will think twice about doing that again. In my jeunesse I used to duck dive (I think it's got the posh name of free diving nowadaze?) for coral when I was stationed in Singapore and go down to 30 feet or more with no problems. I used to borrow a diving mate's depth gauge to see just how deep and I was pretty well near my limit doing that. I guess it wasn't so widely known about in the 60s? Collecting coral wasn't frowned upon then.. Even now I spend more time under water than on it!
4. When you changed the laterals were any damaged? If so that could have been the initial cause of the 'dust'. If you then damaged any whilst replacing them it would lead to what you now have? You don't indicate where you are? If you are in a wind tunnel, as I am here between the Corbiers and the Montagne Noire, then it could well be airborne sand. I only had our robot in a few days back and it needs to go in again because of those winds.
5. When my repeat post went in I had no idea and no email indication that there had been a reply Betty and I had to have 2 tries to even start this reply. Just a blank screen and not even an error I stopped all the google things I could, turned the phone off and charged it overnight. Today there are no google entries on the battery use, mobile standby = 5%, phone idle = 3%, wifi, which is off + 2% and screen = 2% so that 'seems' to have sorted it??
6. This is the forth time of trying to post this as all I have been getting is an error 503 (I think???) Google play music, newsstand, services, store, text-to-speech and + as far as I can see? There's also Gmail, but I haven't set it up because I don't use it, so would it be a good idea to ditch it??

9. I get our bi-carb from our local cooperative. 25 kg for 12.60€. It is what they call animal grade, so I phoned up the company's tech guys and asked what the difference was between animal and people grades. He told me "the packaging line". They are both the same. The producer is Solvay, a French company and the tech guy I spoke to was very helpful. I have posted this info before if it seems familiar??
10. I have a Moto G phone and fairly recently I have noticed that the battery has been draining quicker than it used to. I had a look at the battery stats and found that Google has been taking up to 26% of the power. I am one of these strange people who have a phone to make and receive calls on. I rarely, if ever, use the camera, I use it to listen to the radio or my music when I'm working in the garden, I have some photos on it  and if I want to get on the web I use one of our Macs so I'm now wondering just what is causing google to use all this power and what I can kick in the head on it? I don't use it to get or send emails either. I have had a look at various sites on this problem, but I am not too sure what language they are talking and I don't understand half of it. When I go into the 'Settings'  'Apps' and  do a 'Force Quit' or the like I get dire warnings that the whole thing may not operate properly, etc.  So if anyone could explain, in single syllable words please, how I can get back to what was normal then I would be reet chuffed, ta.. Nearly forgot, it's running the latest software, what ever that level is??[8-)]
11. Ah Rabbie, but that sounds as if it could have been just a shot in the dark [:-))][:-))][Www]
12.
And even sorrier about the referendum result...I swear if one more person on Facebook tells me to 'suck it up' or 'we are all in this together' I won't be responsible for my actions :-(
I used to have an account on farsebook and kicked it in the head. That and pratter, or twit or whatever it's called, are of no interest to me. OK, I know that some can't live without them [:(] Almost 3 million now and counting.. I just wonder what would happen if that count exceed the opt outers???
13.
I suspect you're using crApple ? Not exactly the answer I know but next time don't use the quote button, copy the text then paste it between the conventional HTML tags of quote /quote - with brackets of course [ ]
Pray tell what's wrong with using an Apple MacBook Pro 13 like I have?? [8-)] Is it just that those who don't have one are jealous of those who do [:-))][6] I have to agree on the forum quality, or lack of it. It seems to have been improved until it's almost near perfectly unusable. What more can one ask [Www]
14. Ta everyone, I need look no furver 'cause I went into a konkalery and they had them on the shelf, so now I have replaced both of them in the house. [8-|] Working on the principle that they are both the same age!! [:-))] Job jobbed!!
15. We possibly do, but the first place we will try is the place that made my workshop windows and doors. They have a good reputation. There's also a quancaillerie near by too. I hadn't thought of that one, ta! At the moment all I have done is to take the one from our back room and fit that. The bottom bolt just drops into the frame hole, so the only way anyone could break in is to smash the bottom of the hardwood frame out.
16. OK, possible, but the house was built in 1982?? Next obvious question [8-)] What's a reclamation yard in French pretty please [blink]
17. This morning SWMBO came and told me that she couldn't open the laundry room window. After a bit of a struggle I managed it. It's one of the older type of locks where the 2 window frames are opened together. One face has a 1/2 round recess and the other the convex to fit it. It's then locked by turning the handle and pushing long bolts up and down into the outer frame. I removed the handle and mechanism cleaned it out with some IPA (not the beer)  and tried again. That's when a bit fell out and showed the reason for the stiffness in turning. The square drive has broken. So off to the local brico to be given a huge Gallic shrug and an intake of breath through  the teeth!! This afternoon we will be going out to a couple of builders merchants in Carcassonne to see if we can find a replacement, but I'm not holding my breath. So, has anyone any ideas of where I m ay be able to get one of these things?? It would be silly to have to get a new pair of windows just because the lock has broken! Dammed expensive to me-thinks??
18. We have 2 VMCs. 1 in the kitchen which vents straight into the LOFT!!! It is switched off at the breaker and has been for the 11 years we have been here, no problems at all. The other is the toilet/bathroom and until I stuffed a pipe through an outer wall that too vented into the loft! That is used in the winter after we have had a shower. The rest of the time it too is off. It was replaced a short while back and, for us, it is definitely not needed on all the time. Plus, at night here it is so quiet that you would be able to here it. Not the motor, just the air movement.
19. I'd need one  sail 2/3rds the shape of an octagon and another the other 1/3rd to fit [:-))][:-))][blink] Those boards look complicated and a lot of cutting?? I think that I will just get some hardboard. I have a nice new staple gun to play with to nail it up there too [8-|] It should be pretty well dry up there and if it did get damp it dries very quickly here. It'll last as long as we are going to be here me-thinks??
20. No problems with insulation Ch. The front is completely open. The left hand side is the pool pump room and the pool tools slide up under the roof so I don't want to actually block the space between the joists. Hence the hardboard. There's also several blackcap nest boxes in there to which would suffer if I used poly foam. But ta for the idea.
21.
Perhaps if you tell us for what purpose you will be requiring a particular board for an alternative, with translation, can be suggested. regards cajal
Certainly. We have a cuisine d'été with a traditional terracotta tiled roof. The underside is open with the tiles on show. A boat load of rubbish comes down through the tiles and I want to pin something like hardboard or the like on the underside of the slats and between the joists to stop the rubbish dropping through. It is quite weatherproof on the underside so I suppose that even hardboard would suffice for it as I don't want to spend a load of cash doing it? I will need something like 4 or 5  8 x 4 sheets for the job. The joists are very evenly spaced at anywhere between 18 1/2 and 16" so the board will have to be cut to fit and not just sliced [:-))]
22. Hmmmmm? In which case I may well have to wake my brain cell and have a rethink[:-))] OK, there's another board. I bit like chip board on speed, made with small sized lumps-a-wood all glued together? I know that comes in water resistant and is green?? Anyone know what that is called please? Edit :  -   This sort of stuff
23. I have to admit that I was in a bit of a hurry and didn't read all of it. Good luck and don't forget to let us know what happens.
24. As I said, I have the roaming activated, or as they call it 'Option Voyage' and 'Option International'.. Say la veee as Del-Boy would say [:-))]
