1. They do exist - just don't see them that often - he he!!! ......... and you don't have to see the sun to appreciate a good sunrise.  The colours are lovely and that'll do me.
2. Hello everyone - I'm here too and hoping to lose a few kilos.  I lost half a stone before Christmas because I had really bad flu and couldn't face food.   I'm over that now, but would like to try and keep the weight off and reduce it too. Have just come back from shopping armed with my Special K and loads of veg to make soup for this evening.  After the last couple of years struggling to lose weight and only succeeding in putting it on, let's hope 2008 will be different and that my resolve to lose will become a reality. 3. Actually - it's very unusual for me to be up in time to see sunrise, but I had an early start yesterday.  Add that to the fact that I got a new camera for Christmas and I'm putting it through it's paces. ............. and yes, I do take the sun in France seriously.  I am and always have been a sun worshipper and since being in France, even more so. Just checked out your website - house and pool looks lovely and very inviting.  I like the idea of the games room too.  We were going to do that with our pigsty and may yet still do it at one end.  The other end will now be a garage area for the car. 5. Sisters Podge (the darker one) and Marlene (feral cats) looking like butter wouldn't melt after they had just all but destroyed our 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle of Mont Blanc. 6. Lovely Mack & Mabel - that shadow on the water makes him look twice the size.
7. Thanks hoverfrog - some nice patterns on that site. Jan
8. Thanks Rusethouse, they look really useful sites - I shall write to them to ask their permission to link to our website. Jan
9. Never mind.  I'll get my French teacher to translate for me as I know she is a knitter too. Jan
10. ooooh Chezstevens - that's a bit harsh isn't it. Perhaps you should try and make your enclosure a bit more secure to stop said animal getting in.  It may not have been the cat that killed your chickens - more likely a fox.  It was probably unfortunate that the cat was in the wrong place at the wrong time, so please don't take it out of it's territory.
11. Just Googled that Pix and I do believe you are right.  Tick, VG, gold star.  Thank you. Jan
12. I always forget to take my camera with me, but this one was taken out of my kitchen window (which I will get around to cleaning one day).  Had to jiggle about with the brightness on my camera programme, but at least it's not just a silhouette now.  It wasn't moving very fast, but by the time I'd sorted out the settings on my camera it was heading for the tree, which is where it's partner had disappeared to by the time I'd got myself organised. Ever since I threatened to go out for a walk with the camera, it's been raining - typical.  Due for rain for the next three days as well, so no chance of any good photos there.
13. Found a good one called http://chezplum.com/french-knitting-dictionnary/ Discovered from that, that Jersey is stocking stitch, but which is which on jersey env. and jersey end, obviously right side and wrong side, but which way round?
14. You are right that it has travelled across the pond. Aside from that, would you be able to help out with some french knitting terms.  I've just got a book with some lovely knitting patterns and I've worked out some of the terms but am stuck on others. Jan
15. Sorry not a hugely brilliant picture (I'm still getting to grips with my new camera), but we had two of them wandering across the bottom of our garden the other morning. Seen here picking it's way through the b****y molehills.  Even when there is frost on the ground the moles are still active [:@]
16. OK - that's fair.  Hopefully people will visit the link to find out the other word.   [:D]
17. It rhymes with stitch and is another word for a female dog. I've just written to forum admin to ask if, in this context, I can use the word.
18. Stitch & Bitch is the new thing in England and America, so a group of us decided to form our own Stitch & Bitch in the Correze (19).  So if you live near the Pompadour area please feel free to join us fortnightly on a Tuesday morning at the Auberge de L'etrier in Beyssac from 10am to Midday. For more details about the group and it's meetings - please visit the website www.bitchnstitchfrance.com and please feel free to drop in with your stitching at our next meeting which is on Tuesday 8th January. Happy Stitching Jan edit: link made live by a mod
19. Awwwww - they are so cute.  My friends used to have two yorkies, Henry & Lily.  Now they have a Rhodesian Ridgeback (Rufus) and a three legged dog which they rescued when they moved to Crete (called Raiki).  Lily wouldn't stand any nonsense from Rufus and would bit his ankles if he annoyed her.  Rufus was scared stiff of her.

Book

I do know what you mean Rob Roy, but my gorgeous white cat (in the picture) has been missing since 4th November and we both miss him dreadfully.  Not knowing where he is or what has happened makes it very distressing.  The book is about written memorials to lost and departed loved pets and although it is sad and makes me cry, it helps me remember what a great character our Davy was. I still hope that one day he may return, but the night after he left, I dreamt about him trotting proudly through the blue and yellow flowers he loved to sleep in, but he seemed to be floating above them.  In my dream he looked content and happy with his blue eyes sparkling. OK - I'm crying now, but that is how I want to remember him and if, by any stroke of chance, he does come back, he will get so many hugs (which he loved). Jan

Book

My friends brought me a book for Christmas called Farewell, My Lovely.  It's about loved pets that have passed on and their owners have written about them.  I'd only read the first story and it had me in tears, so if you are thinking of getting this book, buy a box of tissues to go with it.  It is however, a lovely book and I would recommend it. 22. Thanks Sunday Driver - all starting to make sense now. Jan [B]

Confused

Hi - I have just read the breaking news on the FHI site and although there is still much work to do, the latest news can only be good news - so well done all of you for your hard work and campaigning.   What is not clear from the news (unless I missed it), is how the new statement affects E121 holders who have received that E121 on grounds of Incapacity Benefit, who are not yet of retirement age and not receiving state pension.   The E121 that was sent to OH in 2005 and which we never received, arrived last week as a second copy and I am a dependent on that E121.  OH is on long term Incapacity Benefit which is why he has received the E121.  Up until receipt of the E121 the CPAM (and us) believed we were on an E106 which was due to expire on 5th Jan 2008 so we are not yet affiliated to the CMU.  Do we just take the E121 to the CPAM and become affiliated?   Also, yesterday, we received a form called Revenus de 2006 Contributions Sociales with a sum of money that we have to pay for:   Revenus de capitaux mobiliers (2) Revenus etrangers (6) Base Imposable Taux de l'imposition Total net de l'imposition   Montant de la C.S.G deductible (9) pris en compte pour l'imposition Des revenus percus en 2008   Although my husband's French is pretty good we are not sure what this form is about and can only assume that this means by paying the sum requested, we are now affiliated to the CMU.  What does CSG stand for? Sorry if I'm being a bit thick on this one, but like the title says - CONFUSED   Could you advise please.
24. After much confusion with OH's E106, it turns out he was sent an E121 in 2005 which we never received.  He phoned DWP and they confirmed this and also asked him if he had any dependents to go on it.  So I am now registered on his E121 as a dependent.  The new form came yesterday which confirms me as a dependent. He is receiving his E121 because of "long term" Incapacity Benefit due to being unfit to work.  Now, some may say they he will have to be re-assessed in France, but others say that if he is on "long term" IB, then this is not the case so the E121 stands and he should not lose it.  Tony F, I would check your wife's IB paperwork and if it confirms she is "long term" IB on the E121, then she should not lose it.  I would also check the paperwork to see if it confirms that you are on it as a dependent and if not, get your wife to ring DWP to ask the question.  If they agree to it, they will need your NI number to confirm the details.  Unfortuntely, they would not answer your questions if you were to ring, so best if your wife does it.
