1. IMHO he is simply a sleaze! [NB, it that how it is spelt - anyway, yaw'll know what I mean]?
2. A year ago, and because I drink far too much of it, we purchased jars of instant coffee at €1.60 in Leader Price. Then three months later there was a massive price increase to €1.80 and since a month ago, the same item is now on sale for €2.10. That's an increase of 50 cents in less than one year! It's unbelievable. We have stopped going there and are patronising more and more frequently the German outlets who do have some good specials.
3. Same here - it costs €188 and took 8-10 days although the stamped-addressed envelope I had included was returned to me because it was not large enough! Actually, at that price HMG should foot the cost of the postage don't you agree?
4. To those people who have given us the link to CSF - a profound and grateful Thank You! We are over the worst probably, but to have interaction with caring and supportive people who have similar or even worst circumstances has helped enormously: we have used the CSF forum on a daily basis, contributed our small pennyworth to it which will also hopefully be of benefit to others, and generally read and digested the comments. Certainly to be recommended if anyone else finds themselves in these unfortunate circumstances.
5.
If no-one on the forum can help, you'll find plenty of cheap copies at www.abe.com. Hoddy
Thank you for the link. If there are no replies, {it's early days yet} then this is a good option.
6. Does anyone please have an old copy of the original "Diary of Adrian Mole aged 13.3/4" they no longer need/use? It is for my 19 year old French students - would be fun for him to read, as well as help him, with his English. TIA
7. Hooray!!!! My husband has just called and said he can come home this afternoon. I almost wept with relief and joy. If you had seen him only three days ago, no-one would have believed that he would be well enough to return by today. But it just goes to emphasize the power of positive thinking so once again, to those super supportive people on the forum. Many grateful thanks.
8. To all those extremely kindly members of the forum who have followed the sequence of events in our lives recently and who have given such unstinting support and guidance. The Grand Opening took place today: it took slightly longer than expected at 5 hours with a [necessary] lengthy recovery period. The patient is of course sore and in some discomfort, as well as being very thirsty [you know for those who have been there] but was able to speak lucidly and freely with a postive outlook. The staff are simply marvellous - we have nothing but praise for them and especially the consultant urologist. He can hopefully come home within 4/5 days [in time for my birthday next Monday]! Thanks again to one and all.
9. Did you find somehwere? Only just seen your post. We live in Evian, not too far away. Could help if you are stuck for ideas.
10.
Fat cat's pensions, the cost of shoplifters, we the customers pay in the end. I can't see much difference between them except in matters of scale. Hoddy
Not to mention the constant mistakes in the bills - all to THEIR advantage natch.
11. As the OP here, I have been incredibly grateful for the support given to us by people, completely unknown to us previously and especially NormanH, who have been in a similar position yet who have taken the time and trouble to unstintingly and spontaneously give the benefit of their advice and experiences. So if the hospital terminology list is not quite complete, who cares? It has been sent through with the same consideration and will probably prove to be beneficial. So once again, our sincere and heartfelt thanks to those who are willing and able to assist with sound advice on this forum. [Were it not for NormalH, we would not have known about ALD which has now been granted to us]. Un GRAND MERCI!! Sheila NB copied from the other posting on the same topic, just to let those know how grateful we are still.

13. Just a quick update folks [I could not log in for several days due to changes in the system]. We managed to have OH recategorised as ALD which is a major step forwards and thank heavens for that! Last week went for preliminary chest X-ray, electro-cardiogram and lengthy talk with the anaesthetist who explained the whole procedure in detail, followed by yet another blood test [NB Tony Hancock, for those who remember him, with his "empty arm" comes frequently to mind]! Only additional step - yet another wee[!] test next week and then we're in. Everyone at Thonon Hospital has been nothing short of magnificent - long may this continue. Our continuing thanks to those with never-ending support on this forum and I will of course let you know how everything goes in due course. Happy Easter Day
14.
We have both been in Australia since we were children. And we don't like it.
We sympathise! We were there for 5.75 years and [well, I was going to say "hated" it, but shall we just say disliked living there intensely]. We then transferred to Belgium and immersed ourselves in culture which had been so previously lacking. We are now blissfully happy living in the Haute Savoie of France, so if we can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us, either through the forum of via a private email. Oh, and good luck integrating here!
15. Just want to say a big thank you to everyone once again, after all, thanks cost nothing but mean so much, especially when one is truly grateful/thankful.
16. Hope I am not boring you wonderful, long-suffering, supportive people on the forum: discussed the various options this morning and reviewing the short and long-term side effects with consultant, OH has elected to have radical prostatectomy and get it all over and done with. Side effects from other options, including brachytherapy apparently are minimal IF the treatment works: for the 15% where it does not, then there are major problems. Radiotherapy.... well, we all know what that does to the body. And unfortunately it doesn't end there: whilst looking carefully at the scan, he found a tumour on one of the kidneys which also has to be addressed at a later stage. Upshot, our planned holiday to Santiago de Compostella where we have long wanted to go has had to be cancelled and we hope QueasyJet will not be too rigid about changing the flights without penalty. Anyone any information on this please? [Have letter from doctor confirming operation to take place 4 days before we were due to fly]. But you should see us both with a positive smile on our faces, thinking of those who are worse off. Thanks again you lovely people.....
17. Once again, our profound thanks for this very useful information. We are collecting everything possible so that our visit to the urologist on Monday seems informed and knowledgeable [we hope]! There is a great deal of very sound advice in the schedule. Merci!!
18. Yes indeed..... no doubt about it. We have a great deal to be grateful for. Heard of a woman yesterday who had a double mastectomy: a simultaneous biopsy showed no cancerous cells. What an awful physical and psychological ordeal for her and her family - far worse than our small instance. But then each person's problems are their own, n'est pas. Thanks to everyone once again. Merci.
19. To those incredibly kind and thoughtful people on the forum who contributed to the posts last week - another profound thank you. We had the scintigraphie yesterday, which, although taking up quite a lot of time, proved that there are no tumours - that is not to say that there are not a few cells attaching themselves to the bones, but that there is no sign of other activity. So as you can well imagine, we are incredibly relieved and now return next Monday to the urologist, and from there to our GP to ascertain whether we can be attributed the status of ALD. Once again, our sincere and heartfelt thanks for all your support. MERCI
20. Terrific Norman. Thank you so much once again. It is good advice indeed. This is probably why the urologist said to go back to our GP. We'll see what the scintigraphie next Tuesday brings.
21. Thank you so much for this useful advice. However, not sure what are the implications of an ALD so would be very grateful if you would elucidate fully so that  "forewarned is forearmed". Much appreciate your on-going and excellent advice.
22. profound thanks to all who have replied - it is much appreciated. after the "scintigraphie" we should know more, and of course the consultant urologist will explain what treatment will be necessary. THANKS A LOT!
23. Just completed a quick search with the above words. Unbelievably, there was nothing. Does anyone have any experience, views, ideas about recently diagnosed problems. We had never heard about the Gleason scale until last month, now know a great deal. If preferred, PM in confidence. Thank you.
24. We have inherited a slate-surrounded fireplace which is rather an odd shape [which makes matters somewhat difficult]. We do not like the dark slate and wish to replace this with something lighter but which will not be affected by soot. [NB in the UK a thousand years ago we had a very pleasant York stone fire-surround]. There are shelves each side of the fireplace, but the set on the left hand side have periodically to be removed as ...........wait for it............ the valves for the underfloor heating are situated behind a door at the back of these shelves - daft or what! It is not possible to open the door from the other side as this is half way up the staircase. So thinking caps on chaps. We have yet to come up with an answer 3.5 years after moving in! Any suggestions gladly taken on board and thanks very much in advance.
25. Could you please elucidate - we have satellite connections and are not certain we can obtain the channel you are talking about. Could you be more specific please?
