    Is that a "think" or a "hope" that Fransat is best future proofed? I.e..... is Fransat the one you've bought and are praying that you've backed the right horse?

    Looking at a comparison chart on totalsat there doesn't seem to be much to choose between them. TNTsat seems to have a lot more bonus channels in other languages, but it says that Fransat will not require the card to be changed in 4 years.... not that it really bothers me, my terrestrial is a good strong signal and the box from Casino was cheap, so Ill stick with that.

    I've waited all day in the hope that one of the better informed guys will pop and give an answer to your question about 1 dish doing both French and British. As they haven't... I did see this in the Castorama web site http://www.castorama.fr/store/Tete-de-reception-double-Astra---Hotbird-Optex-PRDm891577.html?isSearchResult=true&navAction=jump I assume this means that with careful adjustment you can use it for both.... but there is a lot of assumption in my answer !

    If your current reception via a (terrestrial) aerial is poor then, to get terrestrial digiatl signals you will probably need a very good quality, high gain, properly tuned aerial and a very tall mast to mount it on. If you then have to add on the cost of a Digital set top box, you may find that the costs are not much different to "French" satellite system. I've seen sets in the DIY sheds that seem to be a reasonable price. Certainly Castorama have a dish and LNB for about 25€ which isn't much more than I paid for a basic aerial (I can see the transmitter a mile away on the other side of the valley).

    The cost would be the fitting.... free (ish) if you can do it yourself (Not that difficult, unless you put the dish just too high to feel comfortable on the ladder.... no no no, of course I haven't, I'm perfectly safe.......)

    It was brilliant, I heard most of it "on the night" via Internet Radio 3 and even though the feed kept stopping, it was a great listen (Satellite dish had shifted and I didn't have a signal until I could borrow the neighbour's ladder). So I made a point of watching the TV version (Dish is now fixed but... I'm back in UK anyway   ). Clare Teal surprised me, I had only ever heard her voice before and had pictured her so differently.

    Just one extra point if you intend buying in the UK and taking it over. TV transmissions cover quite a large spectrum and an aerial that is good for the low end frequencies will not be as good for the higher end (the actual aerial rod is a different length). So they have banded the range (5 I think). You can get multiband aerials, but these are really "in the middle" so they can cope with both the high and low ends (if the signal is strong).

    It sounds as if you are in a weak signal area, so you need to ensure that the aerial is matched for the frequency that the TV signal is broadcast on. The aerial is tuned to the signal, a local French supplier would know what frequency you need, you need to find out.

    Then do a comparison of the gain (in theory, the more prongs the more it focuses the signal and it "gains" power).

    So... correctly tuned and high gain is what you want. (You might also want to pay extra to have the word digital on the box........ NOT)

    But Bugsy, if the dropping of the "d" is a colloquialism you were equally right to use Petard. Unless John was querying "hoisted" instead of "hoist"... but even then, who says you were quoting from Shakespeare? :-).

    However I'll take issue with you for dismissing it with "cos I no wot I ment". Surely what matters in communication is that others know what you mean.... you should have put "coz people new wot I wuz on abart" :-)

    I can't speak for all Spanish lorry drivers, but I'd like to give praise & adulation to one in particular. I think his steady driving saved my life! I was over taking him near Chalons sur Saone. He was in lane 1, I was in lane 2, there was nothing in lane 3. Another car decided that he didn't want to use lane 3 and ran into the back of me, pushing me into the side of said lorry. I saw the pre impact seconds unfold in my mirror and I think the lorry driver saw it unfold as well because he controlled that truck beautifully as he brought it to a halt in a dead straight line. If he had swerved I wouldn't be here now.

    I think mine is a Yashica Mat 124G, that is from memory as I can't find it at the moment (However, I've just done a search and found a pic that looks like it). I will have to find it as it is often used as a prop whenever the choir I am in sing "Flash Bang Wallop".

    It's 10 years since I bought and it sounds as if things are changing, but I certainly moved in to a shell. The light fittings had gone as had the wood burner and all the storage heaters. The annoying this is, she probably got 200 francs for the stove at the local Troc.... I had to pay 3500 to buy a new one in a hurry (It was very very very cold when I took possession) . If she had said something I would have happily paid a bit extra to leave the heating.

    I realise that this bit isn't really France related unless you planned to buy a TV in the UK and take it over... Comet have admitted that they were in error:-

    Having identified a number of answers in our Q&A section that are in error, I have arranged for these to be removed or amended accordingly. Having investigated this with our Q&A team, it is clear that the intention was to recommend a better aerial to customers (with a higher gain), rather than promote a service we offer. Indeed, none of the answers I have found mention our aerial installation service. However, I apologise for any misrepresented information.

    I have also identified one other instances of this wording being used in another part of our website but, again, is not sales-orientated. I am currently discussing this with our Internet team in order to amend or remove the wording as appropriate. Therefore, I trust this matter has been resolved for you.

    Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused.

    Even Comet now admit that there is no such thing as a digital aerial! :) (I'm not sure why I made so much fuss, I can't afford a new TV at the moment!)
