  1. We've been here a year and our 5yr old and 3yr old started school a month after we moved out here. I went to the school first for a look around but had already met people who's children went there so had some information about it. I then went to the Mairies with copies of birth certificates and proof of residency (bill) and they were able to start as soon as they wanted to. You do need proof of innoculations, they both needed BCG, and insurance which you can get from any insurance company. They are both pretty much settled, I still get tears for the first week after holidays but they soon get used to the routine again. Even though you may think it's cruel as they don't understand a word of French it will mean that they pick up the language a lot quicker. I am getting used to asking my 5yr old to explain what he's saying in English rather than French.
  2. Haven't had much luck in the search so am posting a subject no doubt has been discussed loads. We have capricornes and vrillettes (hope they're spelt correctly) in our barn and obviously need them treated. However, our insulation has already been installed and we are wondering how companies are going to treat the wood that is sealed. Also does anyone have an estimation of cost before we start asking for devis? Any thoughts gratefully received.
  3. Our experience was similar. When I used anything more than one light or god forbid tried to boil a kettle the whole house would plunge into darkness. I called EDF they arrived and changed one dial and left. It took them about 2 minutes and although we pay slightly more at least I can use it!
  4. Thank you all for your help. I have called the Centre for Non Residents and they have told me I can fax all info to them and it should only take a couple of weeks before I receive my form. Why didn't I think of asking you lot earlier?????
  5. My two children and I have recently moved to France whilst my husband has remained in the UK to work during the week. He returns to France for long weekends. The DoH have told me that I need to register in France and after completing a million and one forms the French have said that Britain needs to cover our health costs as my husband works and pays his taxes in the UK. We are caught between the two. Does anyone know where I can start and exactly which form I need to request? At the moment we have 100% private insurance which needless to say I would love to abolish!
