1. Sorry to do this but my Avatar is not working so here is a test to see if it is - I'd like to add something really useful but cant think of anything just at the moment. Deby, That's some place you have got there, don't know about 'Senior Member'  I think you should have Marchioness Member
 2.
Sorry Miki. It was a bad day at "office". Had to have arguement with Nissan FR dealer! Bloody useless "Grease Monkeys" but that's life. You get good and bad ones everywhere. The sun's back, 32c, ever...
.................over the Nissan mans head perhaps No probs Boggie. Again, it is purely the way text can be misinterpreted, not much any of us can do about it. I guess only "text dialogue" can sort the situation out in these cases.
 3. Do you find French appliances very noisy compared to UK ones? Not sure about that one Dick. How does one do the comparison? I guess because you see both sides, perhaps you can become the forums resident expert decibel inspector. (FREDI for short) Come to think of it, I think most appliances now come with a decibel measurement on the blurb about the machine.
 4. I have to say Admin, that although we are on ADSL and speed is 622.4Kbs (have it !! sorry all the 33.6 and below peeps) we still get some periods of sticking and slowness, resulting in clicking "refresh" and bosh you are back to all threads showing "read" !! Lots of teething troubles but we can laugh about it in a few years and  celebrate in 2010 what a good new forum this is, now that it's all going swimmingly (Sorry SB, just read about your pool cracking up and was not intimating about your piskin) PS I am into instant everything, including coffi o lay
 5. ......................must show a real lack of something in ones life. It was there all the time, just knowing where to look I guess.
 6.
How can you all talk so much about football, yet not a mention of the best thing that ever happened to it - Alan Hansen? With his youthful polished good looks, he could be an honorary Tracy Brother. ...
But do you not think that Georgie, the smile, the dimple, "the dieu de foot" is still a bit more chic than Big Al ? Georgie carries off a mean chocolate brown suit, has an edible brogue and at no time was Mr H fit to lace Georgie's "eloquent size 8's". but I wouldn't say no to his job and I would wear the suit to boot!
 7.
Goodness Dick, where did you get that Avatar of Roger Whittaker from? Terry
Terry, Shouldn't that be "Roger Whittaker"
 8.
Miki and Dick, Isn't there a French phrase (but I can't remember it right now) that runs along the lines of "everything changes but everything stays the same". I am sure you, like me, are gettin...
PLUS CA CHANGE, PLUS C'EST LA MÊME CHOSE You are right Penny, it is extremely hard to disguise yourself behind text, it is much similar to fingerprints innit !! I guess all of us on here get our kicks in many ways, some printable and others a little more acceptable perhaps ! but I could never see many of us getting a kick by flaming a forum, could you? Big world out there to have fun in lads, poor wit and awful flaming on forums must show a real lack of something in ones life.
 9.
Dear Miki Well your bars are rattling. You do seem bitter this morning. You really must learn not to insult people or it could get you into a lot of trouble. You need to control your aggression and u...
Sorry Dunny, Really can't understand what you are blathering about ? I only said put your vest on (I do hope you remembered ?) and I am accused of being bitter but it is you who will feel bitter if you don't put yer vesty on. As for the rest of the posting, well only you and your very weird thoughts could decipher it, so I will simply give it a miss. Someone must think something of you but I just can't get my head around the kind of person it could be, oh well have a happy day Dusty old thing and think up your next wonderful enlightening post.
 10. Thanks Boggy, Sorry but all too often your'e just an Oik, full stop ! It wasn't an argument, I didn't get what you meant, that's all. It sounded more like you didn't have to show the vignette on your windscreen than not showing an insurance certificate to get a car registered in France. I bet if truth be known, I wasn't alone in that either.
 11.
Dear Dick and Miki It is dificult not to notice that you cannot enter into any sort of debate. If you disagree with a topic you just try to rubbish the person who posted it. Perhaps Dick you were for...
Dunny, Who are you kidding, that wasn't a debate you were after, it was simply a nasty and pathetic aside at things you didn't like. Why would anyone want to enter a debate on what you were going on about? I think many of us (including Dick and myself) debate plenty but in this case, your posting had nothing to do with "debating" just note the number of members who wanted to reply or "debate" You kid no one with your snide and nasty digs, oh perhaps yourself excepted. I think another saying which in this case may suit a little more would be "better read than dead" The fee for joining the mutual admiration society is, I am afraid,  none of your biz but I can't see the black ball staying out of the bag. Keep drinking the warm water and don't forget to put your vest on when you go outside to play, there's a good lad.............
 12. Miki, It has to be worth getting your calculator out! Without knowing your consumption hour by hour I calculate that with Tempo you could have knocked between 30 to 50% off of that bill. The standing charge alone is over 300€ a year less on Tempo and I believe you are closed for rest and recreation when the red days arrive! Do the sums I'm sure it will pay for a number of those seafood lunches with wine that I have heard you say you are fond of. I still have all the leaflets etc that the man who came to do the study brought with him a few years ago, they are probably well out of date now, so maybe I shall have to telephone EDF again. Last time, we went through it for a fair while with the EDF chap and no saving was really forthcoming, in fact the man asked me to write down all the times things were on and how many guests we had between certain dates and how many were in in "red" and the other colour days and I really didn't think we had the time to do all that, perhaps if I had then our bills might have reduced but as I say, the figures done by EDF did not show any significant savings could be made. He told us that not all places like us would find a saving could be had, so that is probably why we have never taken another look at Tempo. We opened nearly all year with just Dec and Jan actually finding us closed for the most part. We hope this year to close from mid Nov until March 1st but demand dictates in this business. So as you can see, we are open on many of the extra cost days and that is what made us give Temp a miss last time. Still it can't hurt to give it another look and if it means more lunches down in Cancale, well Tempo it will be !! Will report back once the boys from the EDF have done another etude on us.
 13. As I said, in my experience I have always gone to the DRIRE and asked there first. Will are you sure they charge for attestations at the DRIRE?  I  pay them a cheque, not for too much but always took it that it was the usual charge that anyone would pay, with or without an attestation from the car manufacturer? At the DRIRE they take all the neccessary info from you plus the forms you have to fill in from DRIRE  etc and then you leave it with them (along with a large self addressed stamped envelope) which is returned to you duly sorted out and which you to take to your nearest sous prefecture or prefecture to exchange for your new carte grise (I believe there are other ways now or so I am told). I shall have to pay more attention as to what the charges are for next time, in fact I shall dig out the last bill from them, if I could only remember where it was put!!
 14.
I don't want to be flippant, but I've never seen a fitted carpet in France. Tile-laying might be more appropriate, or solid wood floors (I know someone who makes a living at that in England).
I agree, fitted carpets are pretty rare in France and maybe you would struggle to earn a living from such. Dick who is it? Is it a young Dick at the proms, yes that's it ! I have seen this chap right at the front on the last night, bobbing up and down during the sea shanties and waving a little union jack
 15. Paul, We had EJP for 7 years and boy was it a saver. All of us locals on it used to warn each other when a red day was coming (before a red light was put on the system) The 22 days went past quite quickly and in fact in mild winters, we would sometimes be left with 10 days in March for the 9-10 times higher kw costs when the sun was blazing, so no worries. Moving up here and no more EJP, we found costs rose. Tempo doesn't suit us at all, even though the EDF did an etude and found that it would be almost equal to take up Tempo, not much of a sell was it ! In reply to sc and our high bill this month, perhaps you and your knowledge of such things might just put my mind at rest (or not!) We have 6 x 200 litre 2.4 kilowatt chauffeaus on from 00.30 until 08.00 (HC). We have one other 2.4 kw chauffeau's on permanent (programmed manually for our house) a large double electric oven, used for table d'hôte plus around 15 croissants a day plus bread made in the oven every morning and for use by us as well of course. 2 Coffee makers and electric kettles in use quite a lot. The gite has an electric oven and lots of electrical appliances (D/W, W/M. M/W. well I guess you name it, type of thing). The B&B rooms, do have heaters and yes, the weather has been pretty poor this year and there are heaters in the rooms and bathrooms. Whether they have been used more than last year we don't know. The computer is on most of the day on ADSL and anyone passing (family) can use it. 2 TV's almost in constant use from around 7p.m and I guess plenty of lights from dusk or before in the salon and lounge areas. Not sure what else but over 700€ for 2 months with an abonnement taking up over 100€, does that sound OK' ish !!
 16.
One's no good on its own, Miki. Go on, make it a pair.
Oh alright but what a pair  Wasn't it her that Howard Hughes made the special bra for?
 17. .........and ****nal (whenever we're winding Miki up) You can all wind me up, as long as ****nal is spelt with all those funny things in the name. It looks almost like Urinal, and that's not taking the pee either, or perhaps it is
 18.
Miki, you don't think we are being led down a well-worn garden path by some fairies we ought to recognise?
Dick, You might be right, looking again at the name I might have made a big boob
 19. Frau Penny, First you must earn zis onneur and post zum more, now get bak in zer line and stop zer boomleeking.
 20.
Miki, I think we could have a good competition to guess the true identity of your avatars, a bit like the picture board on Question of Sport. As avid a football fan as I am I will need a few more up ...
Hi Jirac, I was sad to see Gerard Houllier leave Liverpool but I guess like Sir Bobby today, their time had come. How either of our teams will depose ****nal is anybody's guess (I am ruling out Utd this year, with a little bit of trepidation) they really do have some great players and have got in to their stride even quicker this year. I wish we had bought Reyes when he was up for grabs but............. Sorry but I still think footballers are fitter than rugger lads
 21. ".....a reasonably high level will appreciate that the physical and mental efforts involved in rugby is way beyond that of football" Way beyond, I don't think so. Sorry but I have to disagree, much of rugby is still based on part time training. The pack can be fit but many are overweight and for obvious reasons are selected for their weight in the scrum. How is the mental effort any more than, say a goalkeeper, who must be aware and thus must concentrate for long periods. Players must be aware in both sports but I fail to see why you claim Rugby demands a more mental effort ? Sure Rugby is more a physical sport but only having trained at club level and many years ago now, I never saw it as anywhere near as tough as soccer training, played at a much higher level. I think Dick was only saying just how quick off the mark the powers that be were, compared to taking over 30 years for some of the boys of 66 to finally get their gongs.
 22.
they are grown in the Vienne and Touraine also - some way north of Perigord
whoops made an error there, sorry
 23.
We seem to pay €13.07 abonnement a month, our heures creuses are 22.30 to 6.30, 9kW, code 026. The bills never seem too high (though it's hard to tell as we are only around for a week or so in any one...
Sensible! it's a downright give away ! Nice long heures creuse, good enough killowattage and all for little more than a couple of quid a week. No, that is a good deal Dick
 24. Crikey JR, if you have been looking in for 2 years you must have seen the furore that went on about signatures? It was settled after much debate, heated at times but I think was settled very well in the end but yes, lately a few "newbies" are taking advantage of the forum to slip in some crafty free advertising.
 25. Ah what wonderful musical memories eh, Miki and Grief backed by the inimitable Nancy Whisky. Otherwise known as 2 pints of Fullers ESB and a scotch ! ?? freight train ?? freight train ?? going so.............................
