Statement on Icelandic volcanic eruption: Friday April 16, 1445 (UK time) The cloud of volcanic ash continues to move south through the UK and the eruption in Iceland continues. Following a review of the latest Met Office information, NATS advises that restrictions preventing flights in controlled airspace over England and Wales will remain in place until 0700 (UK time) tomorrow, Saturday 17 April, at the earliest. From 1900 (UK time) today ATC restrictions will be lifted in a large part of Scottish airspace including Scottish airports, Shetland, Orkneys and also Northern Ireland. On this basis, North Atlantic traffic can also operate to/from points in this airspace. Please note these arrangements do not mean that all flights will operate. Anyone hoping to travel today or tomorrow should contact their airline before going to the airport. We are looking for opportunities when the ash cloud moves sufficient for us to enable some flights to operate under individual coordination with ATC. Some aircraft were able to operate at Manchester this morning, although restrictions are now reapplied to Manchester. We hope there may be some opportunity from the north into Newcastle after 0100 (UK time) tomorrow - Saturday. We will review further Met Office information and at 2030 (UK time) we will advise further arrangements. In general, the situation is dynamic and subject to change. We continue to work closely with airports, airlines, and the rest of Europe to understand and mitigate the implications of the volcanic eruption.

He did think of this actually - I thought it was a good idea, he was a little bit wary but I think it was a confidence thing. Also not sure what insurances and extra red tape would be required

Thanks Twinkle. That's exactly why the ideal scenario would be for him to find work now that could continue when we move, or secure employment before we go. I'm not going with an idealised holiday-maker view of the place. :)

I think by drivers card you mean tacograph, which is another good point. Will his UK tacograph need replacing with a french one too if he goes for FIMO and a french company? So much to consider (and pay for!)

A client of mine(ours - my company) has a french bank account and they transferred hundreds of thousands of euros to an Ilse of Man company on my authority alone. Having never heard of me or my company and taking my word only that we were his financial advisers. Dodgy stuff!

Being close to my parents is a simplified version of our reasons :p Thanks for all the suggestions, I have renewed optimism :) We'll both be working, I will be helping my Mum to start off her new business and eventually running that full time with her but I also will have a job at a local bar/touristy artificial beach thing and will be doing some french/english lessons on the side if possible while I finish my OU degree, then I hope to become a registered translator, but that's a few years off. If he could find work from England then it seems like that would be the easiest option to start with, but I don't think we'd be happy with that being a permanent solution, he'll need to learn the language to be happy there I'm sure. We were hoping to go next year...

My grandad died after a long illness and although sad, it was a relief because he was finally free. 6 weeks later my fiance was killed and had been reported missing for two weeks before we found him, he was nearly buried as someone else. Obviously that death was devastating to all that knew and loved him. We didn't love my grandad any less it was just that it was a release for him, whereas my fiance's death felt more like he had been stolen than. So of course it depends on the person and the circumstances.

The problem is, the conditions of the policy would have been set out in your policy documents when you bought the insurance. So until you know what they say you don't know where you stand. It may well have been mis-sold but again, you don't know until you have seen those documents. Is the head office unable to fax a copy to your branch for you to read through?

If they were taken out in a bank you should be able to go stand in the bank and wait for them to print them while you wait. It's very worrying that you don't have any documents and there's not a lot you can do without them.

the transport of reptiles really isn't the same as with mammals. If a reptile is CITES protected then the CITES paperwork is required, but this doesn't apply to corn snakes. You don't have to declare corns. Some people do anyway and don't have any problems. Unless you count being stopped for hours with them trying to confirm exactly what you have in the polybox. So if you do declare then write the latin name on the side of the polybox. When I've dealt with crossing EU borders whilest carrying reptiles I've had receipts with me because they've been purchased that day.

Have you checked through your original Policy Document and policy conditions to make sure this is correct? Sorry I couldn't work out of the policy was taken out in France or the UK? Do you have an Independent Financial Adviser?

I'm usually pretty nice to him until he starts trying to tell me I'm wrong, which is when we tend to take a break. This is what I worry about though, he seems so laid back about it all and thinks work will just fall into his lap. Plough on and try to find what learning method works best for him I think. Or pray for a fairy godmother.

Russethouse lol maybe so but I didn't expect to be judged so harshly based on a couple of lines! Perhaps my sense of humour doesn't migrate well to new forums! He is an HGV driver, and recovery mechanic here, he can drive anything except a coach and we'll be living not far from Bordeaux. The Michael Thomas course good? I'm always dubious of that type of learning. ThinkI'll suggesr it to him if it's any good. He's adament that he "just hasn't got a language brain" and doens't seem to bothered but I worry that he'll become isolated and depressed if he doesn't make an effort :( It's very much like teaching your kids to drive, but I'm teaching him french and he taught me to drive so we're sharing "I want to throttle you" moments lol
