Press Once – 1 = 063404 Kwh Meter reading for normal supply in Kilowatt Hours – This figures should be a little more than the reading on your last bill

Again – 1 = 000000 Kwh Meter reading for off peak in Kilowatt Hours ditto

Again – 2 = Base ? Base or Hours Temps (Normal or Off Peak)

Again - 3 = 30A – 06Kva Maximum power in amps and Kva (almost Watts) first figures should equal to the figure shown on EDF disjointer and your bill

Again – 4 = 6 amps Amount of power being used by the house at that moment

Again – 5 = 35 amps – maximum power you have ever used.

Again – 6 = 049922 or 78288 ( When you press defilement) The full number of the electricity meter – The last three digits of which appear on your electricity bill ?

    Again – 7 = 10-- 20-- Peak Hours ?

Again – 8 = 2929 watt hours -Consumption in Watts hours since defilement is pressed

Again – 9 = Complex screen - Only used when operation ‘Tempo’ is set up ?

Additional notes no posting made by others

number 7 gives the position of the 2 switches in the meter ; closed position shown as 10 /20

the switches are operated remotely by the EDF to indicate

    and

    peak rate has commenced

  4. For what it is worth. Ours have doors and inside they have four clothes rails each but Isabel had more room and the cheapest Ikea chests of drawers. The chest of drawers hold socks, stockings French knickers suspenders hers European, suspenders his American and occaisionally draws. They were built because the bedroom was huge and having friends for a sleep over at our time of life did not seem like a good idea. They do the job and were a huge amount less expensive than Amoires
  5. There are exonerations from the costs of changing the CG on marriage or divorce but not as far as I am aware for the circumstances you describe.

For a trade in if it were my problem I would write a letter in French describing the circumstances, enclose a photocopy of my passport. Negotiate the price of the new car and trade in and then and only then reveal the problem.

For a private sale similar problems plus teaching your wife to sign your name upside down using her lefthand.

The costs depend of CV (Fiscal Horse Power of the Car) , age etc details below should let calculate it but as it totally dead money save new plates I would try selling first :

Tax Based on Fiscal Horse Power – Cheval Fiscal

I have been unable to a complete list by Manufacture and Model of cheval fiscal.  However ever if you use Google.fr and for instance ‘Occasion Ford Focus’ you should be able to find an advert for the make model and power that you need to check. Note that estates/ breaks frequently have different CF to the salons/berliners and that for cars like Golf GTIs the CF varies with how powerful the engine is. The best web list I have found is

    http://www.fiches-auto.fr/essais-tests/

Armed with that information and the Department in which the vehicle is to be registered you can then use the information to find the cost per CF which at time of writing varied between €29 and €46.15 depending on location. The figure halves for vehicles which have are been registered for more than ten years old.

Purchase of a Polluting Second-hand Vehicle

Since 2008 an additional tax (surtax C02) is made on the purchase of a second hand car and is due on issuing a new registration document. It is not due when a new certificate is required due to change of civil status (marriage etc) moving house or issuing a replacement It is calculated of the amount of Carbon Dioxide emitted each kilometre -  €2 for each gram of C02 between 200 and 250 grams €4 for each gram above  250. By way of example 253 gram per kilometre = €112 (50*2 plus 3* 4).The grams per kilometre figures is shown in UK registration documents. Link showing Malus for new polluting vehicles and charges for second hand vehicles should be checked to see if table above for  € per gram per kilometre of CO2 still apply

  6. My first action would be to see a solicitor in the part of the UK in which you are resident. If a UK limited company fails in most circumstances Director's liabilities are limited to any gurantees they gave to banks in respect of compnay borrowing and or guarantees to individual suppliers. What you are proposing may be either ineffective or unnessesary depending on particular circumstances.
  7. I am sure there are people on the forum who can speak and write German better than me, say roughly 99.8 % of the population,  but as far as I am aware the correct translation of Reich in the context of National Soclialism is Empire rather then Nation.

    I do not see how for instance Greece which has sustained roughy 12 % inflation for the last 30 years but has devalued versus Sterling and the DM can expect to remain a viable holiday destination unless they cut wages. We went to Rhodes two years ago from France but can well understand why people go to Bodrum, which is only 2.5 hours by hydrofoil;

Different tyre treads will give different amounts of grip so a safety hazard - potential for the car to slew especially under hard braking.

Same tread pattern but marked diffence in tread depth again different grip especially in the wet, once again a safety hazard.

Totally agree with the French tyre dealers - same tread patern and similar tread depth on an axle.

You are missing the point. Pair of new tyres at 340,000 kilometres,  nail in side wall at 340,250 of one tyre why do you need two new tyres ?

  9. This subject comes up frequently on both English language forums about France and French motoring forums. I believe the requirement is that tyres are of the same construction, same manufacturer same specefication and tread pattern and furthermore that there is no more than 5 mm difference in tread depth. Given most modern car tyres have no more than 6mm when new the requirement to replace both is a fiction banged out by the shoddier end of the motor trade.  Best option is turn up with the wheel in another car and say car cannot be moved without a new tyre.

If it was the case how would the businesses which supply and fit second hand tyres survive or trade legally ? These days I have a pair of spare alloys for the Peugeot to which I have new tyres fitted when local Citreon garages have a good offer on Michelins - obviously not an option if you are touring in France.

Short answer you are not being singled out because you are British they try it on with the French as well . My worst ever drive back to the UK was in an early Mk II 16V Golf GTI on the space saver because there were no tyres of the right size in France at that time. Lease company tries to surcharge me for the space saver which was near bald and expensive to replace after very slow drive back from the Med.

  10. My apologies for mistaking criminality for naivety.

The only way I have heard of this working, or described on various forums, is that people claim the headlamps were broken by stones and then claim for replacement headlamps.

No insurance company that I am aware of would take on a RHD car and offer glass cover with no excess for € 150 annual premium only to pick up a € 300 bill next week.

  11. As far as I am concerned deliberately breaking your headlamps in order to swop to LHD amounts to theft, obtaining pecuniary advantage by deceit or fraud. I am not by nature or inclination goody goody and have probably ( forget probably definitely) done things which would cause must forum users pubes to turn white overnight.

    edit to exclude probably.

  12. I think they are great. One of the most frustrating things in my life was being told to look a word I had misspelled up in a dictionary. If I could look the work up in a dictionary I would not need to look it up. I found the first Thesaurus was a vast step forward. If you could think of the antonym or synonym you could find the correct spelling of the word you were looking for. For the most part they correct the word and there is some chance you will remember the correct spelling next time.
