  1. We have now had an avis primatif on line. Spreadsheet 20€ out!
  2. We have logged on and looked, but nothing. The date that we submitted the form is there, but that is it.....
  3. We have still not heard anything. Are others still waiting? We pay monthly in advance and the payment schedule has not been updated.
  4. They are all like that Judith. We have 8,000 of the useful ones! Have got rid of a lot to our book club and vide greniers; these are what is left. Thanks to all for replies, but not sure I have an answer yet. Will take some to the dechetterie and see what happens.
  5. Just a quick question. Does anyone know if you can put old books into the normal newspaper recycling, or if they have to go to the tip. Nothing anyone would want - think ancient encyclopaedia of family health for example.

    Arthritis

Thank you both that is very helpful. Should have said before that he has osteoarthritis in hands, shoulders, knees and feet. I think we need to work on our doctor. Our much-loved MT has just retired and been replaced by a very competent young woman, but we find that she is a bit more reactive than proactive, so I think we need to ask for a referral to a rhumatologue and some stronger drugs. The trouble is that he pushes himself all the time working in the garden and the pain is much worse when the weather is damp. Would be nice to relax a bit more and take some salt-water cures, but there is always too much to do....

    Arthritis

Morning all. Need a bit of help for my husband who suffers increasingly from arthritis. The doctor has sent him for x-rays which confirm moderate to severe arthritis. He has been told that the next step would be the surgeon. He has been given diclofenac and ibuprofen on prescription, but neither do much to control the pain. I think he really needs to discuss pain management and the right sort of exercise, but hasn't been offered any other referrals. Do we need to ask to see some kind of "logue"? Are there likely to be any local support groups or does that sort of thing not exist? We are in the south of Calvados.
  8. Yes thanks I have done that. Thanks to all, obviously remembered it wrongly from school. Should I blame the teacher, it was only fifty years ago?
  9. I mislaid my UK licence. I got a certificate of enitlement which was, I think, £5 at the time and took it to the prefecture with all my documents (including marriage certificate) photos and the usual electricity bill. They issued it for free there and then, but I think it depends where you are. (It refers to my new licence, but I am still unable to edit posts or sign in at all from my ipad so forgive the typos and ambiguous grammar as putting the t in entitlement would involve deleting the post back to that word. It has been like this since the site got changed.)
  10. Urgent help please! I have to do a translation for a "pupitre" of information, before it gets cobbled together by the tourist office and Google. Can someone remind me if eighteenth century in France should be the same or (as I have vaguely in my head) should be translated as nineteenth century in English? Thanks !
  11. Just spotted my nomination for franglais of the year award on one site - "desimlocker"....
  12. Thanks all. My SiL will unblock the phone and send it to me. I will have a look at all the recommendations, but there is an SFR shop in town so I may go with that. We have French Orange "broadband" of 512k so the phone will be for out and about phone, text and internet access. Thank you and Merry Christmas to all.
  13. Thank you. I found this http://shop.orange.co.uk/mobile-phones/plans/simPlanList.jsp?cmsPageId=02510#iPhone on Orange UK, but no French equivalent? We are permanently in France, so need to go French if possible.
  14. My lovely son-in-law has offered to give me his old iphone4 when his contract runs out and he upgrades. I curently have a cheap phone witha 10 euros a month contract with Orange.fr. I wouldn't need huge amounts of calls, texts or internet acess, but does anyone know if you can get a sim only deal? It sees to cost about £10 a month in The UK, but the orange website defeats me and I can't find anything on there. Please excuse typos as the forum still doesn't let me edit my posts.
  15. Have had an email purporting to be from EDF saying our payment has not been made and tey will be cutting us off unless we send a payment etc etc. We have never given them the email address so would like to forward it to them as a scam, but can't find an address on their website. Anyone got any ideas? Apologies for typos, can't move cursor...
  16. Interestingly when I was in the UK recently looking at secondary schools for my granddaughter, the deputy in one school said they were thinking about doing ibacc to avoid the political football that is GCSE. It was a very impressive state secondary school, where the pupils made excellent progress. By the way, in response to the much earlier post about January entry being for re-sit, then the answer is no, these will be early entry exams. It is all much more complicated now, in terms of who does what and when.
  17. All very irritating. The login must have worked once! I have logged out on the laptop, but really need to do so on here as well.....
  18. Neither of the log out buttons for this forum seemto work. Help!
  19. Wow! That is seriously impressive.
  20. It is the second bit in your link Norman. If you receive a pension from several countries then health cover is the responsibility of the country where you worked the longest. At least I thought so but reading it again maybe not........ Hmm
  21. Thanks, have got it now. Suspect it needed someone to do something when the helpline office opened!
  22. Help! I am trying to subscribe to the Guardian and Observer app at the end of the trial period. I am subscribing from my French itunes account, but after I have entered my password it just goes back to the subscribe page. Any ideas?
  23. We live full time in France, but your figures sound right to me Betty. We go back to the UK about four times a year with the car and we do lots of shopping. We make all our own bread and we find that the best and freshest fruit and veg are from Lidl, apart from our garden produce.
  24. Excellent result! I guess he will be covered by RSI until his birthday and then it will UK. Don't forget to apply for winter fuel allowance!
