  1. Yes, Sue saw the griffon doing panicky little circles in his cage and recognised immediately that he was simply not able to put up with being penned up like that. So he is now called Dexter and is safe with her. Ref the passport, I am sure that means a UK passport; she wouldn't have mentioned a passport at all otherwise, as by far the majority of her adopters are from the UK. It would be great if you take the spaniel collie cross, as then Sue will have room for one more from Carcassonne! Rowan
  2. Louis, maybe this should be in a pm, but good news should be shared. That lady who was there (not British, I must add) in the process of abandoning her dog due to supposed allergies decided to keep her after all! She is moving to a house with a garden in 4 weeks and is sure that things will be better if the dog can spend more time outside. She was actually very upset at the thought of giving up the dog, whom she loves. The SPA has found her somewhere to keep the dog in the meantime. So it was a VERY good day. 5 out, none in! Sorry Eduard peed in the car. Must be all that time he spent in the chatterie!

    Bitten by sanglier

Hi All Called the vet, who said to keep an eye out for swelling or infection, but otherwise shouldn't be a problem. Scout seems fine today, but I will watch him closely. I know it was probably a joke, to ask how the sanglier was, but it did occur to me, too. I am sure Scout didn't do any damage, but ultimately the sanglier has to fend for itself, without me to disinfect any wounds and cuddle it (!!), so I am hoping he was unhurt. Thanks for your responses, all. And yes, see you soon Merlin! Can't wait to see Molly on her way to safety! Rowan x

    Bitten by sanglier

    Thanks Any more offers?
  5. Hi everyone During our evening walk my small terrier (12kg) came across a sanglier, whom he decided was fair game. Inevitable result. The bite is not bad but close to his mouth, and quite deep.It has stopped bleeding and I have disinfected it with TCP. Should I do anything else please? Should he go to the vet? He is vaccinated against all the usual, plus rabies. Thanks Rowan
  6. I think we are done, but Christine seems to be better informed than me (on this as on so many things). If I am right, tho, then locking it would seem to make sense and we can start again with new / old dogs! Rowan
  7. Wow! I hadn't heard that! Excellent Excellent and thrice Excellent! New thread NOW?!!!
  8. Hooray and well done Flo. THREE more dogs saved! Should we start a new thread now? This one has meandered a bit but has ended up resolving the original problem.... Rowan
  9. Just back myself. Lovely to meet you, Louis, and glad we had a dog that suits you. Look forward to seeing you and Eduard again on Tuesday, when you pick him up. Yes, I was very emotional, saying goodbye to my favourite, Tchina. I decided to market her blatantly today, took her out of her box and let her meet people. I approached one young man and just told him how wonderful Tchina is. He took his time, went round the whole SPA and came back to me to ask to see her again, so I put her in a park with him, and left them alone and he was smitten! She was already chipped, so time to say goodbye. He is going to send updates. Today we had 8 adoptions, which is GREAT! Plus I know at least 3 are leaving on Tuesday (plus Eduard, but including Molly). So a wonderful day. We are still over full, but all the same, I feel quite invigorated (tho knackered!). Thanks for your support everybody! Rxxx
  10. Maybe 3, even. In addition to Molly!......Will let you know on Tuesday evening. Don't want to count chickens. Be funny if between Merlin and the Tuesday visit more dogs are adopted than during the two open days. As one of the other volunteers says, Vive les Anglais! (even tho I remind her about the Welsh and Scots and NI too!!!)
  11. Not great, despite the weather. Lots of people came to look round, some just out of interest and some to get dogs or cats, but I think there were only a couple of adoptions, and one of them was me reserving Molly for Merlin. On the other hand, lots of people gave food and blankets, which are always welcome. Am hoping for better things today. Will let you all know! Rx
  12. Send them to us!! I will get out all the dogs they want to see!
  13. Yes, I know i am not Christine and she is far more expert than me, but at the Carcassonne SPA people are positively ENCOURAGED to meet the dogs outside the cages. We have 6 parks and we leave the people alone with the dog for as long as they like (or we stay with them if they want us to), we let them play with the dog, introduce him to their own dog (if they have one) and if they are choosing between two dogs we swap dogs over so they can decide. I hate the idea of people taking a dog home to see if they like him. Maybe they rely on people not being able to return the dog for compassionate reasons, but it is hardly the way to a happy life for either dog or people! Rowan
  14. Just in case it had slipped anyone's mind.... 1400-1800 on both Saturday and Sunday. Please come along and give a dog a chance at happiness! Hope to meet some of you there! Rowan
  15. I think I love you. Slept well last night; first time in ages!
  16. Merlin Do you mean it? Really? I will PM you... Rowan
  17. We have a poodle plus maybe a poodle/grifon cross. Plus on Monday we had 2 Yorkies brought in. Also we have what people are calling a Ratter...looks like a JR/Chihuaha cross to me. Should I get more info on these? Ref the doberman, no young ones of that type to my knowledge, but I will keep an eye out. THANKS! XXX
  18. Merlin, in case you manage to persuade your husband...(or if anyone else will be able to help on this basis.....) Can't remember where you are, but I can get the beagle/basset as far as Cahors next Tuesday, and leave her with Sue at Poor paws for a bit till you can get her,if that would help.... Yes, she is in the most danger right now. And she is cat proof.... And yes, Sue at PoorPaws is a complete star. I cry on her quite often and she gives me the strength to carry on. I love her.
  19. Maybe you don't know about the first success, back in February, the big black griffon who was due to be put down and whom I publicised via Poor Paws. He is now happily living with a Brit couple in the Dordogne, who came all the way to get him from Carcassonne, cos he reminded them of their Irish Wolfhound. He is now called Logan and is having a wonderful time after over 2 years in the SPA. Loads more still to do, tho!
  20. Just so you all know, Merlin's contact collected the cocker today. She is delighted. So is he (now called William- It was/is a male) and I am delighted too. Looking at the photo again, it is obviously a male! Oops! Anyway....Hurrah!!! Anyone want a pointer?!
  21. James Thanks By a valid rabies certificate I am guessing that means the jab plus a 6 month wait then the antibodies test, yes? The rest of it will be no problem, of course, but if this lady does want to adopt, we will need to find someone to take him for the 6 months.... I will get in touch with her and see what she thinks...
