Has anyone seen cheaper fuel prices in service stations?

Yes and no - I bought our reserve winter stock of 40 litres of SP98 generator fuel this am at the retail minus €0.30 price.

But the same filling station had their gasoil price shown on the price board at the non- discounted price - I have no idea why!

We have just filled up with Diesel at 1.68 a litre at a Total garage on our way back from Le Mans, down the road in SuperU it was 1.98 I've been checking for heating oil a  we need to top up for the winter, but so far no drop in price since yesterday. Last time we filled up in October 2021 it was 1.105 a litre, at the minute they are quoting 1.60 a litre

The site started working again, with a few glitches, and showed our local station had SP95 for 1.499, compared with 1.699 yesterday (but that price was posted on 18/8).

It's only a few hundred metres away, so went to fill up in anticipation of a trip to Spain shortly, but after queuing for a few minutes and selecting SP95 nothing happened. Same on another pump I tried, and similar for a couple of people on the other pumps, so we surmised the SP95 had run out.

It would be nice if someone had put up a notice. The supermarket owning the station is just across the road.

Incidentally, diesel was 1.79.

I just checked  https://www.prix-carburants.gouv.fr/ and the price I paid for SP 98 today is the same and the gasoil price is the same. The Intermarche site we will go to tomorrow for the weekly shop shows diesel 30 cents cheaper. but SP 98 at  30 cents a litre more than we paid today at 25 km distant.

WTF is going on here? I thought the Mekon said that ALL fuel would be discounted 30 cents?

Sooner or later the subsidies this government continues to give is going to catch up with them. Someone is going to have to pay for it and guess who that will be!!

French TV reports that the Germans are all over the east of France hoovering up petrol which is 50 cts cheaper;   they're even bringing jerry cans (how appropriate!).    Apparently their fuel price subsidy was taken away at the same moment as the French subsidy increased.

As Ken says,   sooner or later someone is going to have to pay for all these subsidies.    My theory is that this is Macron's sh*t-scared tactic to avoid another Gilets Jaunes uprising,   given that they often start during the rentrée and - oh my goodness me - it happens to be the rentrée right now..... Coincidence - non non non.....

Macron was going to scrap the fuel subsidy for another subsidy for folk who used their vehicles a lot, but after the elections he lost his majority and the new subsudy was a proposal of Les Republicans and he had to accept in order that they would support Macron on other matter(s).

The 'merry-go-round' of finding the cheaper prices, food, petrol and other goods is almost, if it weren't  serious quite funny!  Belgians and now the Germans are flocking to France because the petrol is cheaper. A little while ago the French were going to Germany because goods and food was cheaper; I go into Spain, as I live in the Pays Basque, regularly for cheaper fuel and food along with thousands of French. In fact, you are hard pushed to find a Spaniard in many of these frontier shopping centres. Even the workers are French!

The day of reckoning will come that's for sure. Subsidies sound great, ask any socialist, but eventually they have to be paid for. It's the economics of the lunatic to continually subsidise to appease the masses!

Was in Narbonne today.  Long queue through lights, thinking it was just bad traffic .. oh no, queuing for fuel, as we drove through on the outside lane saw 95- 1.3~~, the next, probably 98- 1.4~~ .  I couldn't be bothered quite frankly.  But on special offer I would suspect.
