NickP Posted February 20, 2014 Share Posted February 20, 2014 Of course it is, but if you don't want it to peel off you have to do quite a bit of preparation, especially if the room is a kitchen or bathroom where oil paint was frequently used. Quillan Posted February 20, 2014 Share Posted February 20, 2014 You need to sand it to give the paint a 'key'. As you mention it is in the kitchen I would recommend you wash it before (so the when you sand it does not force any grease into the paint) and after with 'sugar soap' or something similar (soda, washing up liquid but not floor cleaner or general purpose cleaner as it leaves a deposit) to degrease it. If you have an electric sander you just need to go over it lightly all over, you don't need to sand it down to the bare wood. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

BIG MAC Posted February 20, 2014 Share Posted February 20, 2014 Wire brush or scotchbrite abrasive pad, sugar soap, then oil base undercoat.(Zinsser do a good one)..leave for a week ...paint your heart out. the undercoat will take to the oil base yet provide a suitable medium for water base.
