"if Bardella succeeds in creating a second class of French citizen"

Bardella is proposing that holders of dual-citizenship should not be considered for higher civil service posts.

This is the same rule as in the UK and a lot of other countries, so not worthy of concern.

So, if Marie le Pen's lot get in, they intend barring duel nationals from holding certain 'sensitive' positions in France. No mention on whether or not giving up the 'non French' nationality would be sufficient. Mark my words boys & girls this is the beginning of a very slippery slope.

I cannot believe that you think that the RN is a real threat compared to the rag-bag of socialists, communists, green loons, trots, and a their assorted hangers-on that makes up the hastily assembled Nouveau Front Populaire.

An agreement between France's left-wing parties was reached on Thursday, June 13, under the banner of the Nouveau Front Populaire. It includes La France Insoumise (LFI), the Parti Socialiste (PS), the Greens (Europe Ecologie-Les Verts, EELV) and the Communist Party.

It should worry all of us that Melenchon will be at the centre of it.

One former adviser, who asked to remain anonymous, says those close to him both admire and fear him.

“Ninety percent of the time Mélenchon is a brilliant orator and a brilliant strategist, but 10 percent of the time he is mad and paranoid,” he said. “He is a scale model of a charismatic dictator,” he added.

I'll take the Le Pen option, assuming that Macron is touted as being a busted flush.

  3. PARIS (Reuters) -In a shock move, French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday said he would dissolve parliament and call new legislative elections later this month after he was trounced in European elections by Marine Le Pen’s far-right party.

Macron said the results were a disaster for his government, and one he could not pretend to ignore. In a high-risk political gamble, less than two months before Paris hosts the Olympics, he said lower house elections would be called for June 30, with a second-round vote on July 7.

If the enquiry into Biden were run by an independent entity then I would take it seriously; but as it is run by a Trump supporting Republican and committee it should be taken with a big grain of salt.

Trump’s record of attempted intimidation witnesses, jurors, judges, even court clerks speaks for itself and as to his honesty, just look at Trump University.

He should at least be barred from office, probably imprisoned when the other trials have been held.

You obviously didn't read the articles I linked to which included facsimiles of the subpoenaed bank records.

But you carry on with your grain of salt approach if it suits your mood.

  5. Panning the spotlight away from DT's court case which is based on "he said-she said" tittle tattle and a bent judge determined to get Donald Trump away from campaigning in the forthcoming presidential election and to divert voter's and the media's attention away from the Biden Crime Family's proven activities.

“From day one of our investigation of Joe Biden’s abuse of public office, we’ve followed the money and that continues with today’s subpoenas for Hunter and James Biden’s bank records. Bank records don’t lie, and coupled with witness testimony, they reveal that Joe Biden abused his public office for his family’s financial gain. The financial records obtained to date reveal a pattern where the Bidens sold access to Joe Biden around the world to enrich the Biden family. As the Bidens were sealing deals around the world, Joe Biden showed up, met with, talked with, shook hands with, and had meetings with the foreign nationals sending money to his family. This culture of corruption demands further investigation. The Oversight Committee, as well as the Committees on the Judiciary and Ways and Means, will continue to follow the money to determine whether President Biden’s involvement in his family’s corrupt business schemes makes him compromised and threatens our national security. We will continue to provide the answers, transparency, and accountability that the American people demand and deserve,” said Oversight Committee Chairman Comer.

The United States House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Accountability is a standing committee of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The amount of money involved in these financial transactions is significant. The wires and money transfers range from approximately $5,000 to at least $3 million mainly from Chinese "businessmen" (a front for the Chinese government)

     https://oversight.house.gov/release/chairman-comer-subpoenas-hunter-james-bidens-personal-and-business-bank-records/

No wonder Joe Biden is mortally afraid of DT getting a second term such that he and the Democrats will stoop to any tactics to stop him.

I am no expert of drug addiction…but I rekon it is the middle and upper classes that make up the majority of drug demand in France, the Uk or whatever

Kids fighting, stabbing, shooting each other to fuel that demand and just pawns.

For the year ending June 2022, the proportion of adults reporting any drug use in the last year was highest among those aged 20 to 24 years (23.3%). ( UK result)

Despite these decreases, the proportion of older age groups using illicit drugs remained considerably lower than younger age groups (Figure 4).

Wow, the article doesn't state exactly what the 'beef' was - Ryanair asking too much of BOD or BOD asking too much (€) from Ryanair.  Considering the Ryanair traffic out of BOD, it doesn't appear very smart to let them go.

Well, you know Michael O'Leary - any hint of higher landing fees, handling fees or higher costs and he'll pack his bags and go somewhere else.

As you say, Bordeaux airport should have considered that some older cheaper fees from Ryanair would be better than no future fees at all.

It seems that that they are going to cease flying from Bordeaux as well, money problems.

That'll be Bordeaux Airport that has the money problems - not Ryanair.

  10. Citroën is asking owners of C3 and DS3 models to report. These vehicles were respectively sold between 2009 and 2017 and 2009 and 2019. According to the site Rappel.conso.gouv.fr the faulty workmanship concerns the “Takata” type airbags.

Many of the owners of these older models may not be known to the Citroen dealer network so it up to the driver/owner to approach a Citroen dealer to have the recall done.

You may not be aware that the proposed but now cancelled CT for bikes was for all bikes over 125 cc,  so not including the death-trap scooters and mopeds that are either not maintained at all or suffer from teenage mechanic's attentions.

They were excluded from the proposed CT so as not to cause the riders who were mostly from low-income backgrounds, a financial burden apparently!

Being an apprentice trained engineer,  having worked for a well known engine manufacturer and subsequently a partner in an engine and transmission shop I carry out all my own maintenance on the basis that I take care of what I'm doing,  the majority of dealer workshops don't.

Now having a working forum again I thought I  remind all motorcyclists that since this thread in 2022 the CT is now live again and came into force on April 15th 2024.

It's a bit of a shambles at the moment - lack of trained testers.

"I have asked at various CT stations near me recently and none are going to actually do the test at all. A DEKRA station tester said his training was not until September / October and he couldn’t make any appointments yet. I explained I had  6 motos that would all need to be checked before the September 29th deadline and he did the usual shrug of the shoulders. May be I will just take a chance and take the €90 fine - unless there are points deducted as well"

    (no points are deducted)

From a biker in 72130 Alpes

Quote off the record from a controller (tester)

"I shouldn't say it, but I advise motorcyclists to take their test as soon as possible, because it will be lighter. All the equipment will probably only be available in the first half of 2025."

This time the CT is compulsory for all powered two wheelers and three and four wheelers not covered by the current car test.

  13. Replying to my own post here:-

Observing some signs of the variance of plant growth in our own garden, the fact that the variegated privet hedge some 25 metres long along the road boundary of our property lost it's leaves totally this last winter and was still bare in mid March, the first time this has happened since we arrived in 2009, no sign of any infection etc, and a large flowering cherry putting out the worst show of blossom again since 2009, leads me to think that the global boiling brigade are talking up their agenda, rather than telling it like it is.

I've heard that some dealers are cool with taking your UK car when you're buying from them. It's like a trade-in, so you skip all the hassle of selling it privately or sorting out the import process solo. Carwow has this feature.

Carwow is a UK company - how does that work in France?

  16. Portsmouth has only two ferry operators using the facilities , Brittany Ferries and Condor.

They don't have a dedicated freight terminal. Crossing times are long, fuel is expensive, so cost of crossing is high, as BF passengers know only too well.

Dover on the other hand has a dedicated freight/cargo terminal. Crossing times are much shorter so much cheaper.

Ferry operators using Dover are DFDS Dover>Calais, DFDS Dover >Dunkirk, Irish Ferries Dover >Calais and P & O dover >Calais

In addition, the road distance to Calais for fresh food exports from the Netherlands, Belgium, and  Northern France is shorter than to Caen, St Malo, Le Havre.

Nothing to do with Brexit, a lot to do with crossing times, cost and freight handling facilities.

  17. Enlarging the story in the Midi Libre report  - Fine of 270 euros etc

"He ultimately won't have to pay. The SNCF decided on Wednesday to cancel the fine of 270 euros imposed on a passenger of the Paris-Lyon TGV who had exchanged his second class seat with another first class traveler, reports BFMTV .

Hugues, a young passenger(in second class seat) had indeed agreed to exchange places to allow a father (in first class seat) to be next to his son (in second class seat). But that was without counting on the controllers. The conductor strictly applied SNCF rules and sanctioned the young man for not having a first class ticket. And this despite the intervention of the father of the family.

    A “rare” situation
Offended by the lack of understanding of the railway company agents , Hugues decided to share his misadventure on social networks .

“No one has been wronged in the story, all the seats have been paid for, but because of two cowboys who think they are in the wild west, the SNCF is being hated even more,” he lamented on X ( formerly Twitter).

Are you declining to take part in the 'mea culpa', 'we're all doomed', ecolo hysteria, Harnser? 😁  How refreshing!  I wish I had your ability to come up with trenchant counter-arguments backed up by facts. Seriously.

The"we're all doomed', ecolo hysteria" is a narrative originally created by the United Nations.

What if a small group of world leaders were to conclude that the principal risk to the Earth comes from the actions of the rich countries?... In order to save the planet, the group decides: Isn't the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn't it our responsibility to bring that about?   Maurice Strong of the UN.

Just about everything published today by the mainstream media on climate, weather, is designed to support that narrative.

There is currently a co-ordinated campaign of misinformation by an organisation called Covering Climate Now.

Covering Climate Now (CCNow) is an advocacy organization operating out of the Columbia Journalism Review (CJR) at Columbia University in New York, USA.  Their purpose is to spread fear and alarm about  – or as they say “raise public awareness of” — what they claim is a “Climate Emergency” or “Climate Crisis”

Their approach is to feed pre-written stories, editorial narratives and shared resources to magnify the voices of alarm to convince the world’s people that there is a Climate Crisis that demands everyone giving up fossil fuels, access to inexpensive electrical power, air travel, natural gas heating and cooking and the myriad other benefits of modern life that are a normal part of our developed societies.   In addition, they provide story-sharing opportunities where stories in one media outlet can be freely re-posted/re-published to another, or used as the basis for “original” re-writing at another media outlet.

    "When the AMOC switches off"

A predicted catastrophic event which will have devastating consequences for places further south than Scotland.  Would be ironic if the climate refugees started a reverse trend in boats across the Channel!

The Scientific Advances’ study’s conclusion is predicated on a single climate model, the Community Earth System Model (CESM), projecting far into the future and it’s also predicated on an amount of ice melt that has not happened in our lifetimes. Even then, the CESM had to have its pump primed with unrealistic meltwater data in order for the researchers to come to the conclusion they got. What they did was to run the model, then add modeled freshwater very gradually to the modeled North Atlantic, presumably simulating a melting of the Greenland ice which might shut down the AMOC.

There’s only one problem; the amount of freshwater from melting that they injected into the model is about five times the actual amount of ice available in Greenland to melt."

So it's very much a fake news scenario.
