Smoke alarms

I wonder if anyone can help me.

I am converting a barn in France into holiday accommodation and have a question regarding smoke alarms.

Is it compulsory to have hard wired alarms or are battery ones acceptable? If I go for hard wired, what is required, are there any regs as to what ones to use. Does anyone have contact details (web site) of a supplier in France? I assume I cannot use ones from the UK as they will carry the ‘British Standard’ which I assume does not comply to regs in France?

Any help would be appreciated.

Most of us probably have the battery type Smudger, which is the one sold in the DIY shed outlets. Whether there are different regs. for holiday accommodation, I dunno, but would doubt it.

No doubt others will soon give you more in depth guidance.

Battery ones are all that are required, the legislation says that they should be NF but when you look at the relevant NF norme all it does is says that they must meet the EN requiremenets and be CE marked, any that you buy will probably carry both markings, they probably wont work either when you need them but safety and consumer protection are not treated with the same desire as protectionism.
