money transfer

you may find that your own bank will do it for a similar fee but without the headache of dealing with a third party. we set up an a/c with one of the specialist firms but in the end got better exchange rate (checked on 3 occassions) and a reasonable fee with barclays.

I've used Moneycorp on a number of occasions and found them to be helpful, quick and efficient. I too was nervous the first time but am quite happy about using them now. One caveat: Make sure that the exchange rate on your contract form is the same as you're quted on the phone. On one exchange I was quoted 1.425 over the phone and when the transaction form came it was only 1.42. that .005 can amount to quite alot if you're exchanging large amounts!

I have used Moneycorps and they are reputable but they charge a fee of £15.  If this is your first time with them be cheeky and ask them to waive the fee 'just this once'.  After that use HIFX who charge nothing.  The other good broker is Currencies4less and they charge £10. My UK bank charges me £29 for a snail transfer so I never use them. I am with CA here and am charged E11.90 at this end. Your french bank my differ.

Today I have been quoted 1.467 euros to the pound which is quite good but just one word of caution, you get a much worse rate if you are transferring less than about £5k.

All the brokers are excellent, it is just knowing whether you can put your trust in someone at the end of a phone or computer, have faith, it works.

Hope that helps

I have used

http://www.interchangefx.co.uk/

several times now in relation to my new build. I find them very reliable, no charges, and got 1.474 on Friday. Over time you can build up a good relationship with your allotted account manager, and they send you daily market reports if you wish.

Unfortunately my Stone Age French Bankers CA NMP charge 20 Euros just to receive it if over 12k Euros. I'll never slag off English banks again!

Thanks for the info. I've just spoken with Dave Foster (nice guy) and he tells me that because I quoted Living France as my source for finding out about WWC I automatically get, and so will other people, a preferential rate. At least that's what he told me!

I didn't post just because I wanted to say I'd got a better rate than someone else but it's not very often that you get to hear of another rate on exactly the same day that you trade. Maybe the next time it could swing in the other direction but it's nice to know that you're there or there abouts rather than having to ring around half a dozen companies to save tuppence.

This is the result of my money transfer with WWC as promised. I transferred 2,000 pounds via internet banking to WWC on Tuesday and they received it on Wednesday. We both bank with Barclays, hence the speed although next time I effect a transfer to a previous payee it should happen on the same day (or so I'm told by the Barclays web site).

Received a call from WWC's admin team on Wednesday telling me they had the funds and would effect an immediate transfer and I should receive the funds in my CA account today (Thursday).

Just checked my CA account (Loire Atlantique by the way) and there are the funds as promised. I have been charged 2,75 euros by CA and no charges from WWC.

A result or what?
