Taxe D'Habitation on new builds

Hi

Is it correct that new build houses do not pay taxe d'habitation for the first two years?  I ask because we rent our house and will be paying tax d'habitation from Jan 09 but the house was only built in 2008 and we have been the only occupants.

It is tax foncier that is not due on a new build. The year of construction and the following two years are  free, however you have to pay tax habitation if you lived in the house on the 1st january, or if you rent a house it is the same.

 

On a new build you will get another taxation bill for tax de equipment payable 50% 18 months after the granting of the contruction permit and the other 50% in another 18 months.

Just to add .....in some departments the charge for the bin/rubbish collection is also included on the Fonciere bill . The charge for the bin/rubbish collection is payable for a new build property once habitiation tax can be applied to the property.
