St Jean d'Angely market

Was pleasantly surprised when walking through the indoor market at St Jean d'Angeley  today to find a stall selling English food.  Even happier when I saw the reasonable prices being charged.  The young couple running the stall told me  they were there every Wednesday and Saturday and were proving popular with both the French and English  They had a good selection of Christmas fayre and were even able to supply Christmas cards.

There is also a shop in St Savinien that sells English food and, in the Intermarche in St Jean, there is an aisle that sells many varieties of "English"  nosh including Patak's Curry paste (well it is made in England).

Whilst we can buy all we need in the local Intermarche (we have a loyalty card) it is useful to know that other sources of food are available - I will look out for the English food stall next time we are in St Jean during the Christmas holiday.

I know the shelf at Intermarche, but find the atmosphere in the market much more fun.   I really enjoy French food, but there is always one thing we cannot do without and for me that is strong Cheddar Cheese and they do a brilliant one in the market.   I personally like French sausages, but for those who want traditional English sausages  I am told the stall sells "the best we have ever tasted".   They seem to sell out as soon as a new supply arrives so if you are visiting St Jean market it is certainly worth getting there early.
