You'd hardly be the first person to do this, NTC: I would reckon there are about 100 people in La Creuse alone 'camping' in a caravan while they wait for the builders to finish !

If you take the road from Dun Le Palestel to Eguzon, you'll see - just after you cross the border into Indre - a lake on your left, with a solitary delapidated caravan sitting there. It's been there for YEARS !

When we arrived we were asked to put our caravan out of sign of the main road!!!  We were originally told we could only have it here for 6 months, that was 11 years ago and we are just taking it apart to dispose of it now.  Some american friends were told they could have a caravan on their building site for 3 years.  The local hunters seem to have had various 'dens' in the shape of caravans with added wooden extensions in situ for years. So the rules vary as usual.  I would ask at your mairie it would only be polite.
