Tresco
Well today's the day the 'socialists' choose their guy or gal.http://www.guardian.co.uk/france/story/0,,1949111,00.html After watching some of the so called 'debates' I was pretty shocked by how rubbish all the socialist candidates were, media spin training wise, that is, and including Sego; but then they weren't real debates. All the candidates had agreed to answer questions that had been vetted and that they prepared for etc etc. They didn't have to respond to eachother, just learn a response. None of them were very good at it.Why do politicians stitch themselves up this way? If they are really into it, it will always shine through in off the cuff resposes. Will
It's all very reminiscent of the recent lack of leadership qualities in two of the three main British parties. France's left is full of Iain Duncan Smith type characters (or maybe Menzies Campbells would be a better comparison - we need a few scandals to knock out some of them, and see who is left, but with vice and corruption so much a part of French political life, it would have to be something really bad to eliminate a candidate). With so many 'parties' involved I don't see how any of them can choose a presidential candidate that will represent them all from this lacklustre lot, it's different when there are one or two charismatic characters behind whom they can unite. I did note the criticism about Sego: "Ms Royal told a party meeting 10 months ago that teachers should double their working hours and spend less time giving private lessons." That's likely to be a real vote winner among the socialists.

Apparently it's being linked to on many French blogs and has been viewed by many thousands of people. It seems she's not really with it as far as what teachers do regarding contact time and preparation/marking etc. Her lead in the polls dropped a a fair bit recently, but apparently none of the polls were taken from among those able to vote for the Socialist Presidential candidate, a good percentage of whom are...teachers[Www]
Coco
Well irrespective of her views or comments on teachers she still won the candidacy! And without the need for a second round of voting.Big changes afoot in France then - either a woman in charge or Sarko! I wonder if she would be afforded the same understanding if she is discovered to have a lover as previous leading politicians have [6]

Holland, it could beargued that she already does have one. Well, by a pedant, anyway.Whatever - it makes next year's contest a bit more interesting. Atleast one candidate won't be a dull middle aged man in a boring suitwith all the charisma of a warthog. I reckon she's going to win it,particularly if Sarko doesn't ease up on the foaming at the mouth. Doeshe remind anyone else of Keith Joseph? Cassis
Pretty much a doddle picking a winner in the French elections. If you want a real challenge, have a look at the list of candidates for the Congolese elections - all 33 of them!Presidential Election Candidate List
