I did hestitate when posting - thinking that, with my luck, someone will promptly say they paid half the price and I would then sit here all night feeling miffed.Cathy - as I understand it, it is so that our marriage is recognised (i.e. governed) by French law - for succession / inheritance tax purposes. This way we (i.e. my hubby and I) own all our assets jointly rather than owning a discreet 50% each so that, if I die my husband automatically inherits everything and vice versa - a bit like the what would happen in the UK with joint bank accounts, property etc. I know - its a very simplistic explanation....before everyone shoots me down in flames [;-)]Kathie Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
