Ryanair car hire problem

I booked car hire through Ryanair for pickup at Stansted Airport. But then saw that the pick up was not in The Car hire village and the company would give me 1/4 fultank and to return 1/4 full. Difficult to judge. Then on the docs I saw they want two paper proof of name and address under 8 weeks old ! Difficult for me -too difficult as it turns out- we are too paperless and allannually as regards utilities. And the I got am email from Ryanair selling insurance as I could be asked for up to 3000euros excess! So I went and got a sensible company who still want one proof of name and address and the bank RIB will suffice. And then Iwent to cancel the Ryanair one. Well! I can cancelfor free up to 24hours but the long long web address wont work and so I am left with the option of keep trying or go for a no-show which means I lose the money, which i am prepared to do and will never never book car hire through them again. Would like to stop flying with them but Paris airports would be the only option. I have tried their main website but could get a link and I dont wont to throw good money after bad with the phone. Sorry about the typing mistakes I cant figure out how to fix them. Will let you know if I get anywhere or has anyone any suggestions. It is only about £65 worth, but I hate to let themget away with it!

Can't help on the question of cancelling your Ryan car, MrsB,

but I do have a comment about the payment for extra insurance at pick-up.

We met this situation at the Hertz desk in Sicily a few years back, which is the first time I had come across it this cunning wheeze by even the most mainstream hirers to boost their income. Reckoning we were pretty likely to end up with a bump or a scratch among the crazy Italian drivers, we paid up, but if I had known about the dodge beforehand, I would have looked at some of the specialist insurance companies that offer much cheaper "excess protection" on a one-off or annual basis.

Google "car insurance excess protection" for information. The MoneySavingExpert site looks helpful.

Thanks Angela . I gave up after another go at getting to the correct cancellation place and also discovered that although they claim 24 hours notice is sufficient for full refund they also point out that it can take up to 48 hours to process the refund. Well- that says it all . I also resolve to avoid them if at all possible . I also took out an annual insurance for car hire policy for that extra piece of mind . Thanks again .

Thanks Dave. Yes I know now not to waste the time on even trying and just accept that that is the way they operate. Still I think they have just hit an all time low for me . As my son often says to me just be happy when you get a cheap fare to balance it out !
