Springtime things

Lovely surprise today, a new orchid in the garden. It may not be that special but it's only the second species to appear since we have been here and as our land is "rescued" from intensive agriculture it's quite something. Unfortunately there are very few orchids in this locality due the cereal farming and the practise, now near enough stopped, of spraying the roadsides with herbicides.

Greater butterfly orchid.

Lovely photo Chris, I haven't seen one of those before. It is lovely.

We had our first blackbird fledglings chashing parents for grub today at breakfast. They are as big as the parents...

We had a walk on the gaurrigue last Thursday with a few of the ladies from our village and there were some wonderful flowers. I went to take some photos and my camera battery was dead!!!!! I must have knocked it on sometime. First time for me[:(]! I missed some lovely spring flowers.

Fully charged now though!!!

Unbelievably yet another new orchid has sprung up in our "garden", it's really remarkable that after years of intensive agriculture the seeds have laid dormant waiting for the right conditions to slowly return.

The most common type of Bee orchid, but it's made my day.
