Well Christine, you are the only one to show interest, so I am not sure that I will tell [6]!!

But then, of course I will!

It has something to do with an elephant!! Fancy or what...

It is an elephant hawk moth. All of about 2 1/2 inch wing span. It came into our place a couple of nights ago and it was beautiful. It vanished and turned up again today, but unfortunately it had expired. It is still lovely though. Such incredible colours and such a fantastic hair style!!

Aparently they are common here, but this was the first one we have seen. hat a fascinating place we live in!

Edit :- Sorry it took a while to reply, but we were watching England getting beaten by France at the rugby. Well deserved win by France too!

I forgot to say that the fur on the body is so very fine. Isn't it lovely. Lots of moths have a wonderful furry body..

the biggest one I have ever seen was when I was stationed in singapore and I walked into the electrical workshop on 205 Shackelton squadon one evening and and moth with a 6 inch or so wing span was flyig about. frightened the life out of me until  realised wht it was. Ab fab had nowt on this monster!!! The are wonderful...

I suppose that you could use it for very small dusting jobs, but be VERY careful where you stick the handle!![:-))]

Christine, that really is quite something. We saw 2 just down the road on a wall last spring. They really are huge aren't they.

Lovely photos too.
