Is English Enduring Power of Attorney valid in France?

Recommended Posts

Some years back, I signed a deed of Enduring Power of Attorney so that if, one day, I lost my marbles, my kids could take charge of my affairs.

I'm now living permanently in France.  I have two questions:

- If needed, could an Enduring Power of Attorney be registered in England and then used in France?

- What is the French equivalent of Enduring Power of Attorney or Lasting Power of Attorney, if it exists?

Cheers

Martin

Hi,     What you signed was probably a "Mandat" which was only valid for a particular transaction. The french equivalent of enduring power of attorney, (which is very new) is the"Mandat de protection future", it seems very complicated (google it), but within a family wives and children have extensive powers anyway: the mandat seems primarily for third parties to look after isolated people.
