Licence Requirements

I'm toying with the idea of buying another Lambretta (either a 125 or 150) and am not sure whether i'll need a full motorcycle licence or can get away with using my car licence as i used to do in the UK. Anyone help me out please?

Hello Tim,

You can drive any motorbike or scooter up to 125cc without a motorbike licence provided you are over 21 and passed your (car) driving test at least 2 years ago. Unfortunately you can't drive the 150cc without a full motorbike licence.

The next thing is to find a reasonably priced 125 Lambretta here in France!

What is a CBT? (sorry, been away too long)

Here in France, so long as you have a car licence there is no problem, you just buy the bike and ride it.

In the UK, CBT is Compulsory Basic Training.  It applies to everyone wanting to ride a motorcycle, but in France, they only have it for young riders.  It's to stop the complete novice from just jumping on a bike and riding it off to their death....
