Neil Hewitt - RIP

[Sunday Driver]

Sad news involving the death yesterday of a local rider in a road accident in Deux Sevres.

Neil Hewitt was out riding his Honda Goldwing when he was involved in a collison with another vehicle. Paramedics were immediately in attendance, but sadly, Neil did not survive the accident.

Neil and his wife Dee had recently taken up residence in the village of La Chapelle St Etienne in Deux Sevres. They were at the beginning of their new life in France and had quickly made friends with their new French and English neighbours, one of which was our Pete Drumm (Mr Wiggy) who lives nearby.  

Whilst he had not yet joined this forum, Neil had expressed a wish to become involved and to participate in our future rideouts, so Pete and I felt it would be appropriate to post this message here. The UK Goldwing Owners Club have also been advised.

The funeral will take place on Friday morning at Niort (time and venue to be confirmed). His wife Dee has extended a particular invitation to any motorcycle riders who wish to attend.

I guess the lack of response to this thread means that it brings home the vunerability of all of us who choose to ride motorcycles.

It is just so sad that here were a couple whose recent move to France was, no doubt, full of hope and anticipation, only to be totally destroyed in a few seconds.

Our thoughts are with his wife Dee.

Only just read this, shocking, and so sad. Our locality had something similar happen within the "UK" community, terrible, my thoughts are with those involved.
