Benjamin
I hope other people understand this term for a kitchen tool which is used to slice items such as cucumbers and cougettes lengthways.Anyway ours has finally fallen apart after many years of use and we need to replace it.Has anyone seen these for sale in supermarket chains or will it have to be a specialist cook shop? The multi function general graters have a similar "slicing" blade but they are rarely as sharp as a dedicated mandolin.Benjamin
saddie
There is a company called "Les Coutelleries de Thiers" They sell all manner of knives and small kitchen gadgets. They have mandolins in s steel for €99 or plastic for €39. Around here they come in a camion. Their website is www.auvergne-menager.com
Benjamin
SaddieThanks for that link. Unfortunately at 99€ for the professional variety that's a bit too much for the occasional use it gets. Our neighbour tells us that in some of the larger markets where you see a stallholder making all sorts of shapes and decorations with vegetables we make be able to purchase one. If not, it's on the list for the next time we visit the UK.Benjamin

Tony F Dordogne
Try one of the Ambience store chain - they sell the 99E type but also a cheaper version - I use mine all the time so went for the larger/expensive one but the cheaper one looks ok also. Benjamin
Thanks for the ongoing responses. I've discovered that Metro is a trade cash and carry allied to Makro. Our nearest one is at La Rochelle so will attempt to gain entry next time we're down there but I would guess we're back at the 99€ level if it's trade.Don't know Ambience around here Tony, although we are a bit "country".There's exactly what we want on ebay but only shipped within the UK so may have to phone a friend for a favour. Thanks again.Benjamin
