Steam cleaners.....again!

I've had a quick look. The cleaning powder supplied is labelled "carpet extraction powder" (suitable for upholstery) but with own brand name. A quick search for equivalent products here has resulted in this http://tinyurl.com/38oh8d4 (RM760 by Karcher), a reputable make, but it's in 10 kg tubs, which I suggest is way too much (and expensive). On the list of alternatives I see that they do the same product in tablet form (take 2 three times a day whilst you're cleaning, it'll make the carpets look cleaner and generate some new crazy patterns! [:-))]).

No problem obtaining this stuff in UK but yet another product that's difficult (apparently) to source over here, and there's rarely free delivery.

I found smaller quantities here on Ebay with a small delivery charge which seems reasonable http://tinyurl.com/34g5m9z I'd go for that I think.

Pixmania sell it also but their postage is almost as much as the powder. It'd be nice if you could just walk into a store somewhere and pick it up!

I'm going to try the first clean with just water, Sid.  That should shift some of that wood ash from the fires!

Then, our water is so hard that I will perhaps try a small amount of ordinary stuff for front loading washing machines, which tend to produce less suds.

We'll wait and see.  Anyway, the chairs and rugs are so dirty that any sort of a clean can make a dramatic difference, I think.

You just can't get housemaids to kneel on the floors nowadays and hand-brush everything, can you?[:(]

It should do, just like washing clothes in plain water, it will remove a degree of dirt, Mild carpet cleaners generally only contain water, fragrance, citrus juices and peroxide. Stronger cleaners, such as maintenance cleaners, contain hydroxyacetic acid, butoxyethanol, monohexyl ether, alcohol, bleaches and enzymes.

In other words give it a go, the machine will only squirt water at and suck it all back with the loose grime, the same as with the shampoo, only without shampoo[:)]
