Hi everyone

Hope some one can offer some advice.  I have an apple tree that is a little 'sick' but also have a root  treatment for it that I will be doing during Feb before new growing season.  But I have noticed today some tiny white mushroom/fungus have appeared on the trunk.  How do I get rid of them, do I scape them off or is there a product I will need to buy.  I don't want to cut it down because it is is a lovely old tree and would prefer to save it.  Any advice would be helpful.  Many thanks

Sounds familiar to woolly aphids that appear in the spring on the bark of apple trees.  The aphids look like fungus or mould because they are covered in a waxy substance.  They are difficult to treat with the usual sprays because of their waxy coating.  A good old fashioned remedy is to apply methylated spirits or you could just scrape them off.
