raspberry canes

My Raspberry canes are all in leaf but I have noticed around the base of each one are shoots. The shoots appear to have the same leaf on them so what do I do ?  Let them coninue to grow or should they be removed. They are around every cane and are growing very well and I do not want to dig them up if this is the norm. I have never grown fruit bushes before and I have checked my gardening book but it does not mention this.

I think you can just let them grow where they are unless they are coming up a fair way from the original plants. If they are then you can dig them up and replant somewhere else.

Thats great as I will have more plants for next year as well.  Good fun all this gardening.

Val, the new shoots are likely to be this year's growth.  I'd leave them for the time being and then in the autumn, after they have fruited, prune, lift and divide them and then replant the new sprouts elsewhere.

That sounds good as a lot of shoots there and it will mean a nice amount to re plant for next year. You always have the answers to any gardening queries that I have so you must be a very good gardener. Wish you lived next door as I always have questions and I sometimes feel a bit silly keep asking on LF.
