Pool Notice

Hi everyone, originally posted in Gites but moving to here!!  I have been reading through past posts on pool security and fencing and I have come accross a posting from 2004 which mentions a notice to be published along with the regs for the pool fencing for AFNOR standards. We have a fence with self closing gate and the correct AFNOR notice on the gate, but I cannot find anywhere the notice the poster writes about.  Does anyone know of it and is it obligatory??? Does it relate to liability insurance or something entirely different??  If anyone has some helpful information it will be greatly appreciated [:D]

Thanks in advance

As far as I know there is no requirement in the AFNOR regulations, which

required the posting or any notice save the display of the AFNOR compliance

number (NF 92- 308, for example). Many insurance companies have I understand

been keen to promote the posting of  "POOL RULES' however, with ' no

diving', 'no glass around the pool' etc etc.

I think that these are a good idea even if many people ignore them but, if

there is an accident, you have a little help against claims for liability if

you have such notices clearly displayed. Our world moves ever more litigious in

its demeanour and those of us who provide facilities are increasingly under siege

from the Chancers and their bevies of Silk.

If I can research anything specific for you then let me know, as you know I am

here to help.

Hi Andrew

Thanks for the info, I have a notice in the info folder for the gites and I have put together a little safety notice for them to sign after the arrival tour (suggested by our architect), but I think I will have a panel printed and put it up in the pool area, just to be on the safe side, you never know[:D]

Thanks again

We had to add a couple of things to our pool notice (which before as Andrew said was no diving, no running etc.)

No flippers

No oars to be used with inflatable boats.

They could both puncture the liner and a lot of people seemed to bring or buy these things to use in the pool last summer!

Yes This would be the best argument I have read for an armoured liner.

We are fitting these Armoured Liners more and more now as pool owners

prefer to have a little bit of certainly on their side when it comes to

use and abuses in their pool - whether its commercial (public pool) or

just a big boisterous family pool. A standard liner punctures quite

easily, especially if the vacuum has broken down in the corners and

there is a section which has no support behind it. I see a lot of pools

will patches in the corners, all of which spoil the look of a pool as

they attract dirt, stains and eventually peel off anyway and the leak

returns....UUUUGGGHHH.

If anyone wants information on armoured liners, then I am happy to explain their bits and bobs a it more.

Andrew
