A few questions from a forum newbie - filtration and security

Hi all,

I have recently come across this forum which seems to be very useful and helpful.

I am looking for advice in respect of a number of areas that relate to my 10 x 5 metre pool. 

Firstly, what is the current thinking about using fencing versus one of the slatted covers for pool security.  I currently have an Aquasensor Premium alarm and am quite concerned about the relative lack of security that appears to attach to pools alarms generally - although they conform to the law.

Secondly, I have an old  DE filter that broke my heart last year with all the maintenance it required.  I am replacing it with a similarly sized Sand filter.  However, I intend to use either zeolite or glass as the filtration media.  I see from this forum that zeolite gets a mention as a superior filtration media - has anyone got any experience of using (granulated) glass as the media?  If so, what were your deciding factors?
