Blood Tests

We are moving over in November, on completion of our house near Villedieu. Sorry for our lack of knowledge, however; my wife suffers and has suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis for twenty five years and is on a new drug and requires blood tests and subsequent results every two weeks before going back to a specialist hospital in Bath to see the specialist.

Conventionally the blood test is taken at our local GP centre within a community hospital, here in Chepstow.

I would not know where to start in France, in that our only visit to a GP in France sent shudders down our whole being in that the GP was housed in an environment that dated from 1901. I would have hated to have a blood test taken there.

Can anyone please let us have at the very least a starting point on this. Our nearest main hospitals will be St Lo. Coutances, and Cherbourg, rdgs

I have frequent blood tests. I get an ordannance from my GP (generaliste) and the blood is taken by a laboratory in the nearby town who send the result by post and it arrives next day. Your French GP will tell you where the nearest lab is situated.

If you do not like the doc you saw or the lab,you are free to go to another.

The lab I go to in Brittany is modern, painless and very efficient. I pay by cheque and have a refund from CPAM and my mutual insurance.

Have a word with Dr. Geslene in Brecey. Brecey is only about 15 minutes from you and he speaks PERFECT English -- and not only will he have you laughing all the time but he is a very sympathetic doctor (I know as he puts up with me !!!)

I could always meet you in Brecey and introduce you.

You can have your blood samples taken at home by a local nurse or can go to the lab. or hospital.

I would never see an English doctor or hospital ever again - the system is much better here.

Any more help please e-mail

Dear JeanClaude ,
I hope this following information will be of some help;
I have recently had some blood tests done in Villedieu at this address:
Laboratoire Dominique BEGUIN
3, Place des Halles
Villedieu ( opposite side of the road to the Tourist Office , it is a grey anonymous looking building )

I have been getting a prescription from my doctor and taking that straight to the laboratoire.
The facilities are very modern and I have been impressed at being able to collect the results the same day at 5 O'clock.
Best of luck with your move
Carrie
