Is anyone out there using a French Mutuelle for top-up insurance please?

We have quotes from Exeter Friendly and other companies but would be interested in knowing costs of French policies. We realise we could go round the various companies but if anyone has experience of these it would help to narrow down our choices. We are particularly interested in likely costs for two almost 80 year olds (not us but parents).

Thanks, Marcus

We use AGF, and we have individual policies. My husband is 70 and the cost of his Mutuel is about 60 euros a month. The cost for an 80-odd year old will presumably much higher. One reason we went with AGF is that they (apparently) don't stick you with huge increases at each age gain - once you are registered with them, they increase only by a sort of indexed amount. This is only our second year and the increases were minimal this time. In the future - who knows!!!
Hope this is of some help.
Chrissie
PS Another reason we chose AGF was that their policy allowed my husband to get immediate cover, while a lot of others made you pay but not claim for 6 months or even a year at the start.....

We have mutuelles with Groupama. We chose them because they insure our house/car etc. They have various levels of cover from basic hospitalisation - cost 60 euros each per YEAR - up to the full monty, covering glasses, drugs, hospitals, hearing aids, dentists, etc etc - cost about 800 euros each.

When you consider that you get (on average) 70% of the tariff reimbursed you will need a lot of drugs/glasses/dental treatment/ hospital care etc to get to 800 euros.

We (aged 56 and 59) chose just the hospitalisation cover. The doctor charges 20 euros for a visit and you get 14 euros back.

The rates change with age according to bands, currently we are in the 55 - 64 group, and rates will rise as cross the boundary into the 65 - 74 group.

I can only recommend this one based on their service, which is very efficient.

Its probably not much point in comparing prices (approx 17/month/per person at any age), since working for a n international organistion we are completely outside the French social security system and have an internal social system, in which the benefits are already significantly higher than the normal French system. Thus the rate we have with UMC is specially negotiated.
