My husband has type 2 but only 31, he is also just on tablets, you apply via your french doctor to CPAM for an attestation saying that you will get 100% remboursement for anything that is Diabetes related. My hubbies tablets, doctors visits, blood and urine tests and eye tests etc etc are all refunded in full.I believe the attestations are reviewed yearly, i'm assuming CPAM ask the doc if it's still a serious condition.I'd like to say he has had EXCELLENT treatment here and much much better than he received in the UK.
