We have just received our E106 forms from Newcastle. The covering letter states we are to take our forms to "the local sickness insurance office" for processing the registration with the French side of the system.
What is the local sickness insurance office called in France - do they mean the sous prefecture or something else.

Its called the CPAM and there should be an office in your nearest major town or wherever your prefecture is. Take passport, proof of residence, bank account details.

Just take the form in and they should register you there and then, they did us, and they give you a number to use until your card comes through. That can take about 3 months. So if you go to the docs in the meantime you have to pay and give your number. They will then give you a paper which you then take back to the CPAM and they arrange a reimbursement straight into your bank.

Once you get your card you hand that in at the pharmacy and they put your details in on the computer and you should only pay the difference ie we get 65% reimbursement.

Hope thats as clear as mud.
