Strictly speaking they are called free-to-view cards,  and are issued by Sky (and only by Sky) for use on Sky digiboxes for decrypting C4,  C5,  and Sky 3 (I think).

They are indeed about £20 and you need to ring Sky and have the Sky box number handy,  along with a UK address.

I'm not sure of the correct number,  but 0870 606 1111 might be a good place to start (Freesat from Sky,  but explain that you already have the box).   Unless you know the intricacies of international calls and number witholding,  do not ring Sky from France.

There are some anglo-french Co's that get hold of them I believe,  but at a price.   And I don't think it's by methods in accordance with Sky's Terms and Conditions (although I may be wrong about that).

Martin is correct - the only thing I would add is you say ' someone has given you a satellite box' - before you look for Freesat cards you need to confirm that it's a Skybox - the cards you are talking about will not work with other boxes.
