decoder for TNTSat & Astra 2

Recommended Posts

We have two dishes (one set at 19.2E=Astra1 - used to have a Canal+ sub. - & other at 28.2E=Astra2) and DISEQ to an Aston Simba (SD) which we now only use for UK and misc. foreign channels from Astra2.

Looking at upgrading to HD & want to add TNTSat (card apparently not available except by buying a decoder).

BUT I am concerned that decoders for TNTSat may have been "compromised / locked" in some way that would prevent us using it also for Astra2.

For example, "Aston HD Premium TNTSAT Canal Ready"

It's that line at the bottom of p6 of the user manual that bothers me (especially since I can't find anywhere a simple statement that TNTSAT decoders will do what I want):

"* Votre terminal étant dédié à l’offre de service TNTSAT, votre montage doit obligatoirement comporter ASTRA 1 (19,2° Est)". OK if the meaning here is "must include" but, being a cynical old geezer, it's the "must consist of" that bothers me.

Can anyone advise on how best to achieve the objective? (HD+TNT+Astra2 - remember, the necessary dishes are in place).

If you want to use one decoder, there are quite a few TNTSAT HD decoders that are now diseqc compliant and therefore no problem to get FTA channels from Astra 2 sat.

I am presuming that you have a diseqc switch....

The Aston Simba TNTSAT does multisat OK.

The Humax 5050HD (double tuner) does other sats no problem.

http://www.bctech.fr/satellite/humax-tn5050hd.html from here for example. This is like the French equivalent of the UK Humax HDR.

Another possibility is to repoint your Astra 1 dish to AB3 5.0 W and get a Fransat HD decoder - none of which are limited in any way to one satellite as far as I know. I have an Aston Simba Fransat HD which does this fine for UK channels.

Newer model Aston Diva premium (single tuner) here for example http://www.transplanet.fr/boutique/info_produit.asp?num=18536
