Podencos in Ibiza - Passion Levriers

Recommended Posts

You may think what do Podencos and Ibiza have to do with this forum but wait, there is a link. The rescue who is involved in helping these hounds is a French rescue, http://www.passionlevriers.com

I've crossposted this with permission from Sighthounds Online:

Hi,

some of you will know about the Podencos over on Ibiza that have been being bred and 'kept' for the past 20 odd years in conditions that can only be called a living hell. Read the full horror story here http://www.passionlevriers.com/accueil_anglais.htm

Well, there is now a chance to save these dogs, as a judge has ordered their seizure, but it's going to take a great deal of money to save their lives. SOL is running a raffle to win a pair of gorgeous framed fox prints, very kindly donated to us by Shiba for this purpose. This raffle is open to non SOL members too, as nothing is more important than saving these poor hounds!

Please feel free to read the details of the raffle here ---> http://www.sighthoundsonline.org.uk/forums...showtopic=13916 and help if you can.

Of course you can always donate via paypal directly to the hounds through Passion Levriers - their welfare is paramount so it doesn't really matter how the money gets to them, only that it does. Here is a link to their home page, and their Paypal button is the white one at the bottom, labelled 'Faire un don' http://www.passionlevriers.com/

Some of you may even be interested in rehoming a podenco.

Thanks for reading.

I got my little Podenco from Passion levriers.....they house their non-adopted dogs at the Emmaüs shelter (Les Clochards Poilus) just down the road from me, so I didn't have to wait for him. He is gorgeous, obediant and gets on fine with the other dogs and MY cats. He chases any other cat that dares to come into the garden!

Really beautiful Moonraker, thank you.  I love these dogs too.  If there weren't so many others to rescue, I would help with the galgos, podencos and greyhounds.

Do you know if he has some galgo as he doesn't have the upright ears of a podenco and looks a bit greyhoundy ?  He's lovely.  I bet Nettie will know, she's the specialist.

He's certainly a cross but I don't know what he's got apart from the Portuguese podenco; he weighs in at 15 kgs. I wanted a galgo but my fences are only 1m20 high and I didn't want to take any risks of dogs out on the road. He spent two years at the shelter and when he first came here he didn't know how to walk on grass. Now he has a "funny five minutes" every evening racing round the garden like a race horse and skidding at the corners! Good job I haven't got a perfect lawn. He has an ID chip but I had his ear tatooed as it's much easier for someone to get my name if ever he gets out. No need to see a vet to read the chip; a phone call to the SCC is all it takes (I know because I found a lost dog one evening; kept him until the next day, phoned the SCC and took him home to the next village).
