Just Katie
I was reading through the Rottweiller thread and noticed that someone had posted that you cannot just take one of these dogs on without some sort of paperwork. Could someone inform me further please?
Christine Animal
It's here Katie:http://www.service-public.fr/actualites/001484.htmlYou have to have a permit delivered by your mairie to be able to own a category 1 or 2 dog.To obtain the permit you have to do a course to be able to own one and obtain "une attestation d'aptitude". As far as the dog is concerned he has to have an "évaluation comportementale" carried out by certain vets to judge the dog's character and he has to be insured, wear a muzzle in public. We all know how ridiculous it is, but it is the law. It sounds very complicated and is a little expensive, that's why so many are being abandoned. But really if you love your dog and want to keep it, it's not all that complicated to do. It's just the getting it done and a lot of people are doing it. I've done it!

Just Katie
thanks Christine, actually it is probably a good law. I have always had bigger dogs but so many people want these as a macho badge.... really really sad. However, what about if I brought one over from UK. Would I still have to go through the same arva palarva?
Christine Animal
Oh yes my dear. It's not where the dog is born, but where he lives! Now if you were to have a French Rottie in England, that's a different story. [:D] No Wooly, no courses needed for husbands. They're not worth the trouble!
