We have a puppy of 7 months old. Jack Russell (mum) Labrador (dad) cross. Don't ask me how they managed that one! Anyway, we would like to have our bunndle of joy "seen to" to prevent him getting over affectionate with the ladies. Anyone know the best age for this to be done.

Many thanks
Sara

Your best bet is probably to ask your vet what s/he advises, opinions vary widely and are often strongly held.
Guide dogs are neutered at about eight months old; my vet advises that the dog should have reached his full adult size. Some say the operation should not be considered before they cock their legs, others. On the other hand if it is left too late unwanted behaviour - for example straying, fighting, mounting the cat... - may have become too ingrained to be eliminated - so to be on the safe side some recommend operating at around six months.
I had my border collie done at a year old, with the benefit of hindsight I would have organized it earlier, as long as my vet was still happy to carry it out.
