Total Gaz

Just bought a house in 24 and are in the process of signing up for various utilities. Total Gaz have written "An overground propane tank belonging to us is at arrangement on the site", which indeed it is, and we've made arrangements to meet their rep next time we visit.

It there anything I should know about likely gaz contracts? Different tarrifs etc?

At some stage, the house will need modernising but nothing is going to happen for a while yet and we've no plans to change the gaz.

Hi!

We took over a big, white, above ground Butane tank a couple of years ago when we bought our house in Vendee (85).

All being well it should be fairly straight forward.......

If there's a lot of gas in the tank you may have to pay the vendor for it.

You might also be asked to cover any deposit the vendor may have made in the first place for the tank but ask to see any receipts etc. if that comes up!

Gas price depends slightly on the quantity you have delivered, small monthly "standing order" top ups will cost more than calling them in when you need a major delivery. We simply phone Butagaz up and they deliver within days, even if we're not in, which is handy!

I don't know about anyone else? but we're not charged any form of rental for the tank?

The only cost is the gas, which obviously depends on your usage. For us, with a 5 deg thermostat set for the heating during winter while the house is empty, plus 6-8 (mostly without c/heating) weeks use of gas boiler for hot water and a gas cooker during the year.

We had 923 kg (approx. 1,800 ltrs) into our 1,000 kg tank in June '02 @ €830 and about 0% was still left after this Summer, so tank of gas goes a fair way for us !

Butagaz inspect our tank every 3-5 years FOC and we've just been OK'd, so all in all as I say, not too complex!

Good luck

David

We have Total Gaz.As Tieman says, they prefer to wait until the gas is down to 25% then make a large delivery. We were charged also for a check and cleanup of the tank. There is a local customer services man who came and explained the contracts to us but as he spoke only french we found it difficult to follow. Pat.

Thanks for your replies - good to be prepared.

We weren't asked to pay for the gaz left in the tank - perhaps because we paid the asking price for the house and bought some furniture from the previous owners (suspect we paid over the top for that). The only thing we were advised about was to check that the tank was cleaned when its being refilled!!

Thanks again
