External walls

Is there any effective way to seal external walls? We have a terrace area with a swimming pool which is surrounded by sandstone walls. The walls are of old sandstone are constantly shedding dust and debris onto the pool and terrace.

The walls are attractive and I would rather not have them plastered with a cement render which might make the place look like a prison.

Many thanks for any assistance.

Hi,

I read somewhere (may have been elsewhere on this forum) that someone had used a thinned down solution of Yacht Varnish, i think that you have to expriment with the percentages so as not to end up with shiny stonework, i have to say it sounds like it may work, you could probably apply it on a still day using one of those cheap 'airless' electric spray guns that are sold on some of the outillage lorries....

good luck, let us know how you get on.

I was going to suggest Thompson's Water Seal, or the Screwfix equivalent.

As far as PVA is concerned, it'd have to be the waterproof type, the standard stuff won't set outside. (Or would set, but then go milky again when it got damp).

There may be some resins specially made for this purpose too, rather like Epoxy, but for sealing bricks, stone etc.
