SDS Max / SDS Plus

If you have a cheap(ish) SDS then in all probability it will be SDSplus. SDSmax is a heavier duty machine, less common and with fewer bits and chisels on offer.

SDSplus bits have four large grooves around the shank. SDSmax have three large grooves and two narrower grooves.

The bits are not interchangeable. I have not seen a converter to put SDSmax bits into an SDSplus drill. DeWalt do a converter to put SDSplus into an SDSmax, but at around £60 my choice would be to buy a cheap SDSplus.

Thank you both for your replies. Jerac, that was very helpful, I can identify the machine properly! Typically, though, the bit that I have identified as being perfect for the task at hand is the wrong type!

cheers

Steve
