There's a very active French association, Paysages de France, which tracks down, and has removed, illegally installed billboards and signs. In the Tarn et Garonne department there's scarcely a week goes by without a large sign being torn down and now the local group, after running out of targets, has moved on to the Lot and the Tarn regions where they are starting to have their first victories. (at Mazamet (Tarn) over 100, illegally installed 12m² signs were taken down last year). It's all reported in the local press and on the association's website. Personally, I've never understood how the French seemingly accept the massacre of their town entrances especially as each town has the right to limit the number of billboards in their commune...does anyone else agree?
