  1. Hi,

Are you sure she is not following the behaviour of the rest of the class?   I have a CE2 class on a Monday who all behave like that!!!  There are differences between town and village schools which  I couldnt believe until I  started working in primary schools last year.   Are there any children in the class with behavioural problems who perhaps receive more attention, whether it be negative attention or not?   Remember though, she is only 4,  years ahead of her to learn.

  2. Hi there,

As son is about to leave for Uni in the UK, I am investigating all options for student loans,   I understand the system in the UK and worry about the mass of debt accrued on both capital and interest after 3 years, and no incentive to reduce it, until of course they try to apply for other loans later in life such as mortgages!!   So I am now investigating french student loans, pay off interest only on a monthly basis for first three years, then have to a maximum of 10 years to pay of capital, Britline fix this at 3.9% , anyone here can quote other bank rates here in France?

  3. My son works at Macdonalds every summer since he was 16,  its is the only company here we have found that will take students at 16. The good thing is under 18 they cannot work later than 9.30pm so he never got late shifts.   It is all done professionally, they get a number from CPAM, set up a bank account for their salary to be paid into and get paid SMIC less 20%.   Cotisations are deducted direct, and they do not pay income tax if they work only during  the suumer   months of July and August, but that may be different if she is not going back to Lycee.

We live in a town that takes on  1000'S of seasonal workers and at the employment fair MacDo was the only one to officially take on sudents under 18. He was never asked for authorisation from Lycee,   just a CV and Letter of Motivation, which he still has to provide this summer, his third season.  What a life, morning shirf, down the the beach for a few hours then back for late afternoon shift, then on to the nightclub, oh to be young again!!!

    Good Luck.

  4. Thanks Clair,

We are using Humex which is cetrizine,   apparently the generic name is Diphenhydramine, and someone has suggested Nautamine, a travel sickness tablet here in france!  .   I must say it all confuses me.   Benadryl is manufactured in germany, and as hubby is working there he called in a chemist, but they have not heard of it!

  6. Hi Deborah,

Thank you for the reassurance.   We have dropped her at the refuge, but they were doubtful if the vet will do it!  If not I dont think we will wait two months!  We will go to our usual vet and ask him and pay.   The reason she is at the refuge is that we got her from there at 7 weeks and the price we paid included the op, however; they refused to do it before she was seven months,  then the vet was on holiday for 3 weeks, now it may not be possible for another two months!.

    Regards  Lollie

  7. Our six month old kitten is booked in to be sterlised, but I have the feeling she has gone into season!   Since Sunday morning she is continually crying and snuggling up to me, but there is no blood.   I spoke to a vet who says they will check her out with a temperature check and heartbeat check before doing the op, but others say its really dangerous and cannot be done until two months after her chaleur!   Bearing in mind they are in and out all summer,  how can that be?   Website sites in French and English all give differring opinions,   any ever had their cat spayed in season?

  8. My mum is 80 years young and we always have to book her flight with a suitcase for the hold, as it is too difficult for her to lug a hand luggage case around the airport, then to the gate, often the longest walk imaginable at east Midlands and then lift it up into the space above the seats.  So there are many reasons for booking a hold and yes it is a shock especially when as I did booked my daughter and I with handluggage at £20 one way then had to book seperately my mums even though we are travelling together as we could not check in online with someone with a case!!

  9. Credit Agricole, my bank, charge 23€ plus % commision, the cheque after the insurance co took their excess is for 60€,  I may ask Barclays, as he has a bank account still open in the UK.  Just wondered if there was an alternative.   Will put it down to a lesson learnt.  Will keep my insurance in-house, so to speak from now on.

That tiny bit of land between France and Spain, is not even part of the EU, you should have seen the price of the mobile phone charges, classed outside of EU, we had not even crossed the border before the signal changed!!   Will certainly be a consideration in future for ski hols.

    Thanks anyway,

  10. Advice please!!

My 15yr old son has received an Andorrian cheque made out to him in Euros,   reimboursement of an insurance claim.  He does not have a bank account here in France, I asked them to refund our bank card , the way we paid for the insurance, but they said they only send out cheques,   Anyone else cashed a cheque like this??

A cautionary tale,   this was insurance taken out with a ski pass, we never thought that if we needed to use the insurance it would be paid out on a foreign cheque to a child!!  So dont take out ski pass insurance in Andorra, its too much hassle and will probably turn out expensive! Use a company where you are resident.

  11. Hi

My daughter is in 4eme, she is 13,  and had a sex education lesson, planning Famialle,  yesterday, separate groups for the boys and girls!  I think this was the first one with a health visitor.  I remember the boys coming home with their packets of condoms, think that was 3eme??   In fact I must check if they still have them!!!!   and explain the sell by date.  They have covered reproduction in SVT.

  15. Hi

Its daylght!!!   sunny and clear blue skies.     We are definitely pointing towards East towards  Nantes.  I found the button on the remote to switch from analogue,  here I can pick up M6, WP and NT1, from 14 TO 18 they are there but very pixely, if thats a description!, from 31 onwards it says scrambled signal,   where we cant find the others it says no signal found including TF1 FR2 etc, which we can pick up on analogue.  Any ideas?

Thank you for all your help last night, it made it a lot clearer eventually for us as to what we were looking for.

  17. Hi

Find cheap fares is still in the same place,  its just called 'book now' then you have an option for dates and tick these dates are flexible, it then shows weekly prices.

Nantes _ Bournemouth fly Tues Thurs and Sat, I think,  I booked yesterday for Nantes to Bournemouth Tues/thursday flights, got two returns for 20€ each, then paid 8€ each for using my debit mastercard!!   Didn't find any 1p fares incl taxes though!  Did anyone else?

  18. Hi,

Follow your dream,     everyone has a right to try anything they wish.   Maybe write to the camping holiday companies, ie French Life,  they are alwys looking for seasonal staff at this time of year and it would give you the opportunity to try it out!!

    Good Luck
