  1. Normally I have hired a car on my return visits to the UK, but this time my sis has offered the use of her car. However she cannot get me as an additional driver on her insurance as I dont have a UK license I passed my test there 25 years ago, and changed to a french llicense five years ago, most short term insurance policy ask for a UK licensee. Anyone had this problem and found an insurer?
  2. Section Britannique, Lycee Grand Air, La Baule has a very high standard of education and many students struggle with the entry test, both for college and lycee. Up to 70 students taking the test for 25 places. However, currently those who join in college do not need to take the test for Lycee. Something maybe to consider from 4eme! 100% pass rate in the OIB, I believe over 95% receive a mention each year. Many students continue their studies in the UK, Canada and USA. But it is a tough BAC to take and not for the fainthearted! Having two children in the section and one out, my only regret, letting one leave!
  3. You are going to love Nantes, we live in La Baule 40mins away and feel very lucky,ag city with everything, shops, monuments, quaint streets and all types of restaurants and bars. one hour to Saumur, with its pretty chateau on the Loire and the lovely beaches of La Baule, Croisic and Le Pouliguen, all less than an hour away by train direct from Nantes. Enjoy
  4. Summer School

Try UCPA, they combine sports with lessons in many subjects, that way he can improve his french and have fun conversing with other french teenagers.

Having arriving here in France with three kids, our eldest being 14, I felt that if we had left it any later he would have not passed his BAC. However he did, now he is back in the UK at a University with more choice, and seven of his french classmates also left France for universities in the USA, Canada and the UK!!
  5. I have been working for the french education dept. Not yet been paid for work between Jan and April. Forgot to pay me May and only half topped my June salary. I expect it will be well into September before all is sorted. I dont think you can compare the french education payment system at all!!!! Just pray its not as bad.
  6. We are flying into Marseille 11.30pm and are looking to reserve car hire. Normally I book Hertz thru Ryanair as generally they are far cheaper, but for some reason they are way out this time. Anyone any experience of other car hire companies, ie argus, autoeurope, 123? What happens if the flight is delayed and we dont arrive until after midnight when the car hire places close?

  8. When a say landlord, it is actually 'a company' who owns many student properties in the area, The Landlord passed the mac details somewhere who then texted with the code, and yes in their particular house they all have the same code, if it doesnt work it doesnt appear to be their concern! In processing of rechecking mac codes and inputs. But as many will know srudents dont have time for this or to find jobs or to sort out other administrative problems!!!!!!!
  9. My son is now at Uni in the UK. Sharing a house with other students they all had to give their MAC code and subsequently received a code for internet access in the rented home. Everyone else now has internet but my son, he just doesnt recognise the code, no one seems to be able to help is it to do with his french connections? Any suggestions please he is getting quite desperate, obviusly his answer is he NEEDS a new laptop!!!
