  1. Thanks for all your replies,  I now know that it is suficient to show our passports/id cards as proof according to the website, its just when we tried cpam they seemed a little confused and said that the carte europeene was okay, even we knew it was not!

That together with our pta association assurance should see us through most eventualities; .

  2. Have just noticed a charge by Britline for posting out cheque books of 5€25, although the postage was 3€80.

Having spoke to the branch this is a charge they cannot or will not do anything about!!  I have been advised to write in and complain and if enough people do they may change their mind.

Otherwise although I have always had an excellent service from them, I think it is time to move more local.

  3. Hi

We too left a good lifestyle/social life in a large city in the north of England.  Having holidayed in France for many years we dreamed of coming here to live.   We have now been here almost 4 years and have built up a social life not unsmilar to the one in the UK, with both french and international families.

The best advice given to us and taken, was,   why did we want to move to the countryside with teenage children?  Go near a town with lots of activities for them.

If your children are used to country life no problem, but we choose a seaside resort, with large beach, cinema's, bowling, bars and disco's. School and friends all within cycling distance.

We love it, and when my 17 year old disco's until 4am I really dont have the same concerns as my friends with sons frequenting the town centres in the UK!!

  4. I know this is not french education exactly, but not sure where to place this question.

A french friend has a daughter in Terminale, who is looking to take a gap year, in the UK,  she wants  to go to school there for one year   to improve her english. I have struggled to find much info for her, as I see it it would be impossible to attend school for one year as most 18 year olds have left full time schooling and moved onto higher education.  Is they a scheme in the uk similar to the teachings assistants here, as I thought maybe a teaching assistants role in french may be useful.

    Any suggestions please??

  5. Why oh why did I buy the french version??  I am sure if I study for many an hour I will get it, but does anyone know that if I buy a Money 2005 for dummies in English, it will help me use my french version.  I used Money 1998 english version in the past and thought this would be as simple, or stupidly thought it may have a choice of languages but oh boy, is it not.

I cannot  get it to telecharge my accounts from CA Britline either.

    Any suggestions would be welcomed.

  6. I dont mind discussing moyenne.   My children have been here at school since 2003.  Currently in Premiere, 3eme and 5eme.  Moyennes currently of 10, 12 and 15 respectively.  They were certainly on adapted grades for the first couple of years, which helped with their confidence, but is a bit of a shock when their true moyenne appears.  I also think a lot depends on where the school is, I have known pupils arrive at out college from a countryside college where they were top of the class with high grades only to be middle of the road here.  My son is doing Prem S hence the work is much harder, and the 15 is a girl!!!!!!

At frst I constantly used to worry over grades and moyennes, under 15 seemed terrible to me, but after discussions with a professeur I no longer do, they all try hard which is all that matters.   Would be interested in hearing other views.

  7. Disagree there,  as I would normally have booked baggage for both of us but have just booked one today.

1 adult,  likely to take cabin luggage; thats what hubby does.

1 adult with child, will  book in baggage.

Anyway we all agree that they are far cheaper than BA and Air France, except for school holidays.   Its the rounadabout way I dont understand. They havent even bothered converting  its 5 euros or 5 pounds dearer.

  8. Looking thru the prices from now  it  seems that children are not entitled to a web fare, so all web fares are just  adults and children pay the reg fare which is 5 euros each way dearer.    I know 10 euros is not really much,  and I know their prices most of the time are good value, but WHY???  Surely publicity wise it would be better to charge 5e more on an adult and say that chldren get & 5e reduction, or  do they really not like families travelling Ryanair?

What would happen if you booked them an adult seat? once you get to check in.

  9. Hi,

Can anyone make sense of it?     Yesterday to book a weekend away with my 12 year old daughter was 47 euros.   1c each plus taxes, today,  76 euros  1c for an adult 5e 1c for A CHILD????? plus taxes. But if I put her as an adult its 68 euros, 1c plus taxes . So the taxes have gone up plus they now charge more for a child seat. I cannot find anything on their website explaining their policy for child pricing.

  10. Hi

One of mine just went into permanence during English in 5eme and caught up with homework, but when my next one started I asked for an alternative, and in 6eme she went into Spanish LV1, this year in 5eme she continues with her spanish LV1 but because of timetable complications she misses one lesson every two weeks!   Not sure what will happen next year though as I dont see how whe would fit in another language.   All my children study english as an international option.   Her downside is she never gets any permanence to catch up on homework and always has more homework then her classmates.  There is no answer here just to let you know how it worked for us.

  11. Hi

Generally long term lets, ie one to three years are very difficult as they require lots of paperwork, proof of earnings, taxes paid etc. bank statements and if you are up against a french person who is interested  you have very little chance. We were lucky as my husband had a french work contract, but the company had to provide a certificate confirming his contract. We know of others here who took a year to find somewhere as most rentals companies just could not help, and they were living here in a short term let at the time!  You are best looking at holiday homes that are offering long term lets.   But no two areas are the same here in France!  Good Luck

  12. I have just cashed mine as and when,  but I have never had the slate wiped clean at leclerc in December!!

Not sure why some leclercs do euros and points, but  my card does both leclercs in St Nazaire and Guerande, St Nazaire has points and euros     but Guerande just has euros!

I spend on average around 200 euros per week to gain my approx 130 euros a year.

  13. Is there an insurance company in France that specializes in insurance for mobile phones, ipods etc,   I am getting a little worried about all the bits my son carries around with him on a daily basis.   He currently pays extra for phone insurance but wondered if he could lump it altogether?
