    Its a Dogs Life.

Hi Bugsy. Love the photo, I know that there is nothing as good as pinching and sleeping in one of their chairs, you look really relaxed. I'm Winston a 35kilo lab, who likes to be free outdoors, but don't like obeying my mistress and master, also I chase anything that has 4 legs or looks like it will trespass onto my patch , what sort of lead are you wearing, is it really very long and strong, would it be strong enough for me do you think?
  2. "   It amazes me how tolerant some countries are of our western ways when we travel to their countries" Which countries would you be referring to please
  3. Good morning all, Can anyone advise if they know whether what was Shopi in Duras (now carefour) is open on 8th 9th May.
  4. When I was overseas, I was unable to buy trifle sponges, and yes I made a plain sponge and used that instead, but I also used quite sucesfully champagne finger biscuits, I think they are called 'BOUDOIR' no comments lads.... add a little strawberry jam and some sherry, also, when making the custard add a couple of spoons of sherry.
  5. Derf does this not refer to constructions as oppose to outside patios, which could be built/made up of stones/shingle on poured onto earth or something called MOT in UK?
  6. We are considering building a patio, and have heard that this could incurr additional house tax. However we have also learnt that additional taxes may also be affected by permanent or non permanent patios, is this true? If it is, what materials are considered tobe permanent and those non permanent? Is this also affected by the size of the patio and if it is can the patio be sub divided to meet any size restrictions to minimize taxes?
  7. Le plombier have tried to contact the plumber and he doesn't want to know anything about it, so we are resorting to getting it sorted ourselves, we don't need to spend all our time when we are visiting syphoning off the water, so we are looking at the alternatives available to us, before we consider having the tank replaced at our cost.
  8. Hi 'stick a bucket over it' precisely what is that meant to mean!
  9. Hi we had thought of marine fuel caps, but unfortunately the bowser when it comes to fill our tank has to screw onto the filler tube on the tank, the fuel is not delivered through a regular pump style nozzle.
  10. We have a new underground oil tank, and are finding that water gets into the oil tank. On top of this tank is a collar with a cover, where the breather pipe and fuel in pipe are situated. The breather pipe is a fair bit taller than the fuel pipe, and wondered if anyone has bought or had adapted the fuel filler pipe to be as tall as the breather. The cap on the fuel pipe is not water proof, we think this is where the weakness is, and thought a taller pipe may well solve our problem. Any useful ideas folks would be much appreciated.
  11. Having had some really horrid smells lingering around the top floor of our house, we had contacted a plumber (for another job) and he came to have a look, and it was put down to having no stink pipe from the loo. The loo was in the loft, and the sewerage pipe was installled by the previous owners with no stink pipe. A stink pipe was fitted out through the roof and above the velux, and now pleased to say no more horrid smells, and the flies have disappeared to boot!
  12. Am still none the wiser as to whether this should be down to the individual, as from the diagrams it is in the domaine public  ie SAUR
  13. Good morning Have had a quote from the SAUR to re build our 'Citerneau' ( the box around the water meter) and was surprised that this was in the private domaine, according to their diagrams and info, after the 'compteur ( water meter) it is our responsibility to maintain the the pieps etc. But this work is most definently in the "domaine public" am I correct in understanding that we have also to maintain the Citerneau ? Have received a devis for Euros 325.00 much to our surprise.
  14. Thanks for the link  that you gave. My question is, what rooms need to be calculated into the total area in sq mts. We are not sure but we thought that we read somewhere that bathrooms,wc, landings/halls stairs  kitchens may not be included. Also, we have an attached grange un renovated and a separate wooden drying barn do these need tobe included. Are these inside measurements or outside measurements. This is not an easy one to get ones head around, or am I having a senior moment! husband reckons most of my moments are senior, cheek!
  15. There was a recipe I found I think in this section on how to make nan bread in your breadmaker, have asked the question but the answer came back negative can anyone help, thanks
  16. Not sure if this is in the right place, we have received our first H1, we have searched various parts of this forum to find out more info as to what needs to be included. We read somewhere, that bathrooms, halls, kitchen, stairs and areas below a certain ceiling height do not need tobe included (ie converted lofts, combles) also do we include the unrestored attached grange. Does anyone know of a site that could assist in explaining the  H1. Thank you, and please sorry if this is in the wrong place.
  17. We arrive in Dieppe at about 1430hrs, we have done the route before via Rouen, but we noticed that a new road/route had been opened when we drove down in July ,much quicker and very easy, and was wondering if anyone else had used this route, and whether the other carriage way was open to traffic in the opposite direction. Newhaven is about 30minutes from us, thats why we stick to Newhaven, plus we get a comfortable nights sleep in a hotel and arrive at our home in Duras about 1300hrs the next day, plenty of time to unload the car and go shopping, makes for a more enjoyable drive .
  18. We are planning our trip to Duras at the end of the month, we arrive in Dieppe and dread the name of ROUEN, I drive and hubby navigates, and the language goes from light blue to dark blue! Last time we were directed to a different route which avoided the rail yards, jams and  the stopping / starting-needless to say no bad language o this occaision,  and wondered if the route in the reverse direction had been opened, our last trip back to Dieppe was in mid Aug 09, we followed diversions through town and railyards, does anyone have any idea if this is now open?
  19. The swallows this year in our  part of w sussex have been incredible, nests all our aroud our eaves, it always amazes me how they fly so fast then come to a stop as they enter their nest, lovely to watch and listen to, from our bedroom window they awake you in the morning with their chirping sound. But yes they seem tobe on a feeding frenzy, stocking up, for their long journey south. Monday was the last departure from our garden, Tuesday morning it was all quiet, till they return...
  20. Hi all, have just returned from france via Dieppe to Newhaven on Transmanche, and have to say that again we had a very pleasant uneventful crossing. We drove our old citroen traction back to UK, the check-in was very courteous we were separated from the other vehicules and were asked if the lower deck with plenty of room around us would be more convenient. What can I say, each time we have used Transmanche its been excellent.
