  1. Where can you buy the small hotel bars of soap.(in UK or France) It is such a waste to supply the large bars that are hardly used during a short visit.
  2. Is there a website where I can check the speeding points I might have. I do not have a French Driving Licence (but do have an EU one) but my two cars are registered to me. I have been "done" twice, and as the registered owner, the gotcha document was sent to me and I duly paid up. I would like to know what my current status is as I understand that although I do not have a French Licence, the points are nevertheless in my name. The points are definitely not on my EU licence,
  3. I am sorry tht Steve, Val 2 and jondeau did not like them. The reason we brought one down to France is that we had a lot of success with them in the UK. Enter the room, switch it on and bingo, warmth immediately. We haqve a wood burner in our kitchen and although warm it is messy - as are all types of "real" fires. That is why we liked the Log Effect gas fires. As I said above they are warm and not messy.
  4. Bottled and I have checked with the manufacturer that it is the correct model for bottled gas
  5. Does any body know of a person in the 47 area who knows about British Log Effect Gas Fires. We brought one down several years ago and it has yet to work properley. We have had several artisans come and look but it would appear that such appliances are unknown in France and they cannot fix it. Thanks
  6. Many thanks. Printed off and now stored with the Carte Gris, Insurance and Copy Driving Licence in the car.   PS Memo to self. Buy appropriately marked Gilet and Triangle. Store Triangle in the Boot (or Trunk for American Cousins) and Gilet in Glove Compartment.
  7. We all know that a new law comes into effect on 1st July. But what exactly? I have been given different advise by a number of different people and got different info on the Interweb so I thought I would go to those who should know. So this morning I went to the local Gendarmerie and was told that the law was going to be TWO Triangles to be carried and ONE gilet (to be carried in the car not the boot.) This afternoon I went to a Gendarmerie in a nearby, slightly bigger, town and was told ONE Triangle to be carried and a Gilet for EVERY person (could be up to 5 in my case) Confused? I am. Two Gendarmes - two answers. Anybody any further info
  8. JR gn,   Thanks for that advise. I will wait and see what happens.
  9. Yes I have a holiday home here (maison secondaire) and a French car (Citroen) registered in my name at my French address. That is how they got me. Back to the question. How long do the points last (3 years as in England?) Thanks
  10. ErnieY, Apology accepted - thanks.
  11. Yes you are an old git. My nom de plume has nothing to do with it. Being in France it could well have been Winedrinker - but taking your sign off you probably would not understand that. I am a resident of another EU country so I initially said EU licence. Cyprus joined the EU a few years ago and one can quite legally drive on a EU licence in any EU country. The chances of Brussels making a EU ldriving licence are as lilely as they are of harmonising VAT. The method of obtaining a licence when one is resident in another EU country is quite simple. You exchange your current licence for a licence of the country you are newly resident in. That is not channel hopping and it is "quite right". And if you want only one drink a day. Go ahead.
  12. Thanks Cat. I have had a look at the other thread. I would have a problem with the change of Licence as I am not a French resident. I only spend the summer here (less than 3 months at a time) and would not want to give up my Cyprus licence as that is where I am resident.
  13. I have just received my second speeding ticket in two years. Two questions: 1. How long do the points last? 2. Where do the points appear. I do not have a French Driving Licence. (I drive on a EU one - not UK. I understand there is a dual points agreement between the UK and France)). But the Avis de Contravention Has a OUI in the box next to "Perte de point(s) du permis de conduire"
  14. Does anybody know of a French Insurance Agent or Broker (who speaks English as the question is too complicated for ny French) who can help me get Insurance for two cars. The problem is I do not spend more than 5 months in France and want to get credit for the time the cars are not being used. To pay for 12 months insurance when one is only using the car for 5 months is a little galling This facility is available in other EU countries and I use it in the Country I spend the other 7 months.
